Job Summary:

This role is a combination of underwriting local and regional clients, local and regional portfolio management and local and regional business development. The role will involve underwriting large complex risks and aiding with referrals of local business underwritten by our Retail Team. In terms of portfolio management, the role will involve, amongst other duties, managing risk accumulations and tracking performance against budget to ensure we achieve our targets. Lastly, business development will need to be carried out both locally in Singapore and in the greater Asia region.

Internally, you will need to develop good relationships with every member of the Asia Pacific Property underwriting team. Other key internal teams which you should become familiar with include Claims, Finance, IT, Operations and the Allied WorldWide team. Externally, you should be liaising with our brokers both direct and reinsurance as well as key clients and cedents.

Job Duties:

1. Assist with the development and agreement of strategies for Singapore and Asia property portfolio, agreeing the risk appetite, underwriting philosophy and pricing strategy in order to achieve the agreed business goals and targets.
2. Assist with the management of the performance of Singapore branch property portfolio through compliance controls, accumulation monitoring, performance monitoring, cycle management and portfolio forecasting to ensure agreed targets.
3. Ensure long term development of the portfolio through the management of product development, based on portfolio performance, market intelligence, R&D insight, legal development and emerging risks.
4. Actively contribute to the development of segment and local customer proposition and associated sales planning. Bring knowledge and insight of the market and its risks, proactively manage and identify opportunities to increase penetration of existing customers and or expand the business mix.
5. Provide expert advice, guidance and coaching to less qualified and/or experienced colleagues to address technical referrals and raise standards and expertise across the technical community.
6. Lead and or contribute to technical audits and peer review processes as required.
7. Ensure the internal systems and processes are in place and working effectively to support the business needs.

Skills and Experience:

1. Significant experience in underwriting large and complex property risks in Singapore and wider Asia region.
2. Experience in designing and managing multinational programs.
3. Strong leadership and people management skills.
4. Excellent business development skills and established rapport with local network.
5. Thorough technical understanding of clauses, policy wordings and pricing mechanisms.
6. Thorough understanding of the broker network with good business planning skills.
7. Strong negotiation skills with a high level of customer and commercial awareness.
8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
9. Competent in Microsoft Office and relevant insurance platforms.
