Job Description
The incumbent will work with the unit head in the development and implementation of the university's strategic risk management framework. This role requires a high level of expertise in identifying, assessing, and formulating mitigating measures to manage strategic risks that could impact the university's strategic objectives and long-term goals. The incumbent will work closely with faculties, schools and administrative departments to ensure a comprehensive approach to risk management, including fostering a culture of proactive risk awareness and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Risk Assessment:
- Conduct comprehensive strategic risk assessments to identify strategic risks that could impact the university's long-term objectives.
- Conduct scenario planning exercises to anticipate and prepare for future risks and uncertainties.
- Develop risk scenarios and evaluate their potential impacts on the university.
- Strategic Risk Management:
- Develop and maintain a strategic risk register, including analysing the key risks’ impact and likelihood for prioritisation and monitoring.
- Devise and implement strategic risk mitigation strategies and action plans to address identified risks.
- Strategic Risk Management Framework:
- Design, develop, and implement a strategic risk management framework that aligns with the university’s goals and objectives.
- Lead the development and implementation of strategic risk management policies, procedures, and manuals to guide internal stakeholders.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
- Facilitate strategic risk workshops and training sessions to build strategic risk management capabilities within the university.
- Engage with management, faculties, schools and administrative departments to embed strategic risk management processes across the university.
- Monitoring and Reporting:
- Develop key risk indicators (KRIs) and risk dashboards to provide effective strategic risk monitoring for the university.
- Monitor the implementation of strategic risk management strategies for relevance and effectiveness.
- Prepare and present regular and ad-hoc strategic risk reports to the Risk Management Steering Committee (RMSC) and other platforms or committees as required.
- Research and Intelligence:
- Research emerging trends, threats and opportunities to keep the management informed of such developments, highlighting potential impacts and opportunities for the university.
- Contribute to the development of the risk insights report to be shared with the university’s management team.
Qualifications
- Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Economics, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in strategic planning, strategic research, strategic risk management or business consulting.
- Strong expertise in strategic planning and strategic risk management principles and frameworks.
- Proven experience in business consulting, business planning, product development and/or product research.
- Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven track record of successfully implementing strategic initiatives in a large organization.
