Job Description

Reporting to the VP, Operations, the Assistant Manager, Stowage will be responsible for ensuring safe and efficient cargo stowage on vessels operated by the company. This position is responsible for ensuring maximum utilization of vessels, taking into account crane utilization and adhering to all safety regulations and port restrictions.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement best-in-class stowage plans for all company vessels, optimizing cargo placement for stability, weight distribution, and safe transportation.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety regulations, including those for hazardous cargo, by conducting thorough cargo classifications and segregation plans.
  • Ensure that marine operations comply with statutory and local port regulations, staying updated on regulation changes and liaising with port authorities as needed.
  • Design stowage plans that optimize crane usage for different vessel classes, considering factors like hatch sizes, crane capacities, and cargo accessibility.
  • Manage a small team of stowage planners, providing coaching, performance evaluations, and fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Maintain a high degree of organization, planning, and time management, ensuring stowage plans are completed efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Analyze stowage data to identify trends and implement improvements in stowage efficiency and safety protocols.
  • Monitor cargo weight distribution and ensure adherence to vessel stability limitations.
  • Participate in pre-departure meetings to discuss stowage plans and address any concerns.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and advancements in stowage planning software.
  • Send Terminal departure reports and arrival/departure bay plans.
  • Update and maintain reports for Data Analysis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the VP, Operations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Maritime/Logistics.
  • At least 3 years of experience in shipping operations or a related field. Experience in stowage or inventory management is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of shipping operations, including vessel scheduling, cargo handling, and logistics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.
