Job description

( A ) JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive risk management and patient safety programmes to improve the quality care and ensure patient safety. Patient Safety is always the priority at the core of providing services. This will involve providing advice, guidance, support with practical activities including but not limited to ensuring patient safety, incident management reviews, reviewing departmental risk registers at the clinical microsystem level. The role involves supporting the hospital's clinical mitigation programs such enterprise risk management reviews with nursing, allied health, ancillary and administrative management on the identified high risk areas ; Team up with the corporate risk and compliance office to actively promote collaboration across professional boundaries and multiple stakeholders to identify, assess and manage clinical risks within the organization. And ensure lessons learnt from the incidents, claims and recommendations are implemented and embedded in the training programs and safety briefings to promote patient safety and risk culture.

( B ) PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Clinical Risk and Safety Management

  • Oversee the review and investigation of all clinical incident, including serious reportable event reports and ensure they are appropriately categorized and assessed, and followed up in accordance with national guidelines and law & regulations.
  • Analyze and interpret incident data, identify trends, lead hospital initiatives to reduce clinical risks identified through the incidents, near misses and audits.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards related to risk management and patient safety.
  • In collaboration with Clinical Leaders and Department Managers, identify and escalate risks to include into the department and corporate risk registers as appropriate.
  • Oversee the claims management function and inquest requirements by liaising with finance, medical affairs, respective heads of departments and legal office on risk-related legal issues. Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies.

( C ) SECONDARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


2. Management Responsibilities

  • Day to day operational management of the department
  • Lead and manage development of staff within the department
  • Review, update and communicate policies and procedures timely
  • Support licensing, accreditation and certification activities
  • Serve as a resource and advisor to clinical and administrative staff on risk management, patient safety and quality of care
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and initiatives
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of quality improvement initiatives
  • Perform planned activities including but not limited to quality week events, patient safety leadership walkabouts, reward & recognition events
  • Any other tasks assigned by the Supervisor

(D) REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, nursing or related field. Preferably with certification in quality management (eg. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, Certified ISO 9001 Lead Auditor) is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 3 years working experience in risk management, patient safety and/ or quality.
  • Perform audits, benchmark studies and system analysis review, implementing change.
  • Knowledge of healthcare quality improvement methodologies and risk tools.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
