Job description

Assistant Director / Senior Assistant Director, Research Grants Management, Research Office

The Assistant Director / Senior Assistant Director plays a critical role in the functions of Research Grants Management (RGM), which includes the following:

  1. Establish critical operating systems and processes for the Director of Research (DOR) functions
  2. Establish relevant guidelines in governing grant management and administration
  3. Work with relevant stakeholders to design and establish relevant digital systems for an improved and enhanced workflow for administration of grant calls, proposal submissions and project administration at DOR level
  4. Liaising with grantors to ensure smooth operations on grant administration
  5. Review Terms & Conditions of competitive grant calls to check for alignment and compliance
  6. Liaising with relevant stakeholders to solicit inputs to improve the operations of grant management and administration
  7. Analyse critical statistics and provide critical summary for management's planning
  8. Disseminate grant calls to ARES (A*STAR Research Entities) and administer proposal submissions for relevant reviews by expert panels, councils, RO, etc.
  9. Follow up with relevant ARES and Corp Groups on LOAs received, ensure T&C of LOAs are complied
  10. Follow up with relevant ARES and Corp Groups on Fund Requisition, Progress Reports, Project Review, Relevant Audits, etc.
  11. Follow up with relevant ARES on processing of variation requests of projects
  12. Monitor major external grants and facilitate milestone reviews required by grantors
  13. Perform proper documentation of critical documents on approvals, projects, reports, etc.

Requirements

  1. Minimally a university degree with a good knowledge of STEM discipline
  2. Minimally 6 years of relevant work experience
  3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to engage internal and external stakeholders, including research leaders
  4. Strong attention to details, e.g., grants terms and conditions
  5. Experience and/or keen interest in work related to governance and policy, especially in the research & development sector
  6. Strong knowledge on software tools such as Words, Excel, PowerPoint
  7. Strong problem solving, analytical and systems thinking abilities
  8. Experience in data analytics and visualisation tools (Tableau/PowerBI) will be an advantage
  9. Resourceful and independent
