SUMMARY
Re:wild is in a position to build a robust, strategic conservation program for Asia, fostering new partnerships, scaling existing relationships, tapping into new funding streams, and expanding the scope and scale of our impact across the continent. The Asia Program Manager will assist in growing and managing this regional program in alignment with Re:wild’s Strategic Plan under the supervision and guidance of the Asia Director.
The Asia Program Manager is a technical person with background experience in species and habitat conservation that can support the regional program to grow and ensure quality of delivery and facilitate support to partners. The role performs a range of functions:
- Supports the Asia Director in developing the regional program, co-designing new initiatives, supporting in all aspects of fundraising from face-to-face meetings with donors, to creating content and finalizing concepts and funding proposals.
- Uses their technical, communication, and management skills to contribute to partners’ capacity to deliver, plus supports country and regional strategy design and roll-out.
- Supports ongoing identification of new donors and building and maintaining relationships with them, in collaboration with the Philanthropy team.
- Supports advocacy in collaboration with Re:wild communications team and working with government agencies and non-government partners to find solutions to regional conservation challenges.
- Plays an active role in any coalitions and ‘circles’ that Re:wild is a member of or is leading.
- Is a key contributor to Re:wild’s Asia regional team and is part of regional strategy meetings.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Partnership development and management
- Assist in identification of partner organizations and collaborators appropriate or necessary to engage for delivery of program/project goals.
- Foster strong collaborative relationships with project partners, including grantees, project advisors, and other collaborators through regular communication and in-person meetings when necessary.
- Strengthen the capacity of partners and projects by, inter alia, identifying and pursuing opportunities for strategic collaboration, joint-fundraising, knowledge transfer and training.
- Provide partners with technical support and assistance needed to achieve project objectives and deliver high quality results, such as navigating challenges and setbacks.
- Program development and resourcing
- Assist in program strategy development and evolution.
- Assist in the development of fundraising materials, including proposals, pitch decks, concept notes and strategy documents.
- Liaise with conservation actors working toward similar or complementary goals to identify areas of strategic alignment and opportunities to advance Re:wild’s mission and programs/projects.
- Participate in donor stewardship, including relationship management and reporting as necessary.
- Maintain close communication and collaboration with Re:wild’s Philanthropy team.
- Grant management
- Work closely with Re:wild operations team to efficiently develop and execute grant agreements and disburse funding to grantees.
- Assist grantees in the development and submission of grant applications.
- Provide grant oversight and support, ensuring grantee compliance with agreement requirements and receipt of timely, high quality technical and financial reports.
- Track project progress toward defined targets, monitor project budgets, and provide grantee feedback through regular partner communications and reporting.
- Obtain project assets (i.e. photos, stories) for communications and fundraising purposes as necessary and appropriate.
- Cross-cutting program and inter-departmental coordination
- Work closely across Re:wild departmental and thematic program teams to ensure close synergies with the Asia Program, including but not limited to:
- Guardians, particularly in relation to women, youth, Indigenous Peoples, local communities and leadership cultivation (individual and institutional capacity strengthening).
- Conservation Strategies, particularly in relation to species recovery, protected area management and wildlife crime prevention work.
- Priorities and Monitoring, identifying regional priorities and collecting and managing site, species and partner data.
- Communications and Marketing, raising the profile of Re:wild and partners’ work in Asia through asset gathering and storytelling, as well as strategic advocacy work.
- Operations, optimizing grant management.
ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS
- Post graduate qualifications, minimum Masters level, in conservation science, environmental management.
- At least 5 years experience managing conservation/environmental projects, including in all aspects of the project cycle.
- Experience working on species conservation and recovery projects and/or programs.
- Experience advancing complex projects and strategic initiatives in a decentralized, multidisciplinary, diverse and collaborative organization.
- Experience working with funders and donors, designing approaches and concepts to raise funds and deliver them.
- Experience with grant management.
- Excellent written, editing, and verbal communications skills and experience completing high-level report outputs, presentations and other materials for external audiences, and in presenting to small and large audiences.
- Experience traveling and spending time across Asian countries and in remote rural and natural habitat contexts.
- Ability to work independently and is a self-starter/motivator.
- Able to proactively resolve or elevate issues, conflict management, and collaboratively solve complex problems.
- Persistence and ability to overcome obstacles and to take calculated risks to accomplish goals.
- Ability to undertake international travel and work across time zones.
- Commitment to, and passion for Re:wild’s mission, vision, and values.
Desired competencies and qualifications
- Ability to speak Asian languages primarily Mandarin.
- Experience conducting research and designing and evaluating research efforts.
