Job Description:
Specialist Clinic Team in Children’s Cancer Foundation provides therapy services to children and families impacted by cancer, working alongside hospital and community teams to support children throughout their journey—from diagnosis to survivorship, palliative care, and bereavement. The art therapist supports children and families by using creative interventions to promote emotional well-being and resilience, helping them express and process their feelings in a gentle way that encourages self-compassion and discovery.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical

  • Provide art therapy sessions to support beneficiaries in developing effective coping mechanisms and deeper psychological understanding.
  • Address grief and loss issues stemming from illness and end-of-life concerns.
  • Utilize creative mediums to foster emotional, creative, and spiritual growth.
  • Guide clients through the creative process, encouraging self-expression and emotional awareness.
  • Assess client needs and develop personalized intervention plans based on therapeutic goals.
  • Evaluate clients’ progress, behaviours, and responses during therapy sessions.
  • Facilitate group art therapy addressing specific issues related to medical condition and survivorship.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and clinical discussions.

Administrative

  • Maintain and organize art materials, ensuring they are safe and meet hospital standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate clinical practices, ensuring effective routine assessments and outcomes.
  • Maintain timely case recordings and reports for clinical documentation.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Art Therapy.
  • Registered with a recognized art therapy association.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Empathy: Provide a supportive space through active listening and trust-building.
  • Cultural & Developmental Sensitivity: Tailor therapy to diverse cultural norms and developmental milestones.
  • Communication Skills: Convey therapeutic concepts clearly and document clinical observations effectively.
  • Resilience & Self-Care: Manage emotional challenges, engage in supervision, and uphold professional boundaries.
  • Professional Practice & Ethics: Adhere to ethical standards, ensure confidentiality, and obtain informed consent.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, contributing to joint care planning and case discussions.

Work Environment:

  • Across hospitals and based at community office.
  • Home visits required for cases.
