ABOUT THE POSITION:
APAC Controller will be a leading member of the APAC Finance team reporting directly to the APAC CFO. This role will be supporting our businesses in India, Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore, Australia, and Japan, and the applicant must have scope to expand into other jurisdictions as the Company grows.
The role requires close collaboration with four key stakeholder groups: The Country CFOs & their controllers, the APAC Portfolio Finance Director and that execution team, the USA based Global Audit & Accounting teams, and the APAC CFO. The applicant must be a very proactive communicator with a strong sense of ownership.
As the APAC Region Controller, you will:
- Provide leadership for the controllership function and collaborate closely with the region Leadership, FP&A Director, Regional GMs, Legal team, and others as necessary.
- Be a proactive hands-on regional accounting professional with in-depth knowledge of US GAAP and relevant regional statutory GAAP knowledge, ensuring compliance with all US and statutory GAAP regulations while optimizing financial controls, policies, and processes within the region.
- Lead functional experts, e.g., Controllers, Treasury, and Tax, to complete statutory & GAAP filings & audits and reporting processes on time, aligning with the compliance calendar.
- Collaborate and advise on complex transactions such as moving into new markets, ensuring compliant accounting & reporting requirements are met.
- Drive the month-end technical compliance accounting requirements with other controllers during the POC (Percent of Completion) project accounting methodology, monitoring revenues, warranty, contingency, LD, and margin results.
- Be responsible for leading and ensuring best-in-class performance of key SOX controls and the completeness and accuracy of account reconciliations.
- Review project cost tracking files using the tool FloQast on a monthly basis and drive clarity and consistency across all of those in line with global requirements.
- Drive internal audit activity on income statements, particularly on revenue recognition and expense claims, using your audit background.
- Lead the review of internal controls and update policies for the region as required, ensuring efficient & effective audit and compliance management is being followed in each APAC country entity.
- Proactively approach the implementation of global initiatives such as transitioning outsourced activity in-house to reduce reliance on consultants.
- Host regular training sessions on various topics such as revenue recognition, title transfer, incoterms, the code of conduct policy, etc.
- Lead the monthly Balance Sheet cycle review for HQ.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory APAC & USA accounting developments and develop a forward-looking vision to identify trends that can impact the business.
- Balance technical requirements with operational business needs.
REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate has a master’s degree in accounting or business administration and at least 10+ years of audit and accounting experience, preferably having started her/his career at a large international accounting advisory firm, followed by in-house experience. You will need to be hands-on and a proactive self-starter with a proven track record of driving process improvements.
You will have:
- Certified Public Accountant/Chartered Accountant qualification with an audit background.
- In-depth knowledge of US GAAP / relevant statutory GAAP regulations.
- Familiarity with SOX for public listed companies.
- Experience with ASC-606 and percentage of completion construction agreements.
- Great communication and stakeholder management skills with a proactive personality.
- Ability to work in a dynamic organization, embracing change and working independently.
- Strong English verbal and written language skills are necessary.
- Mandarin or Japanese skills are a bonus.
- Familiarity with SAP is an advantage.
