Sustainability Office (SO)
The Sustainability Office is a centre of excellence for sustainable investing practices that drives GIC’s focus on this area as an enterprise priority. The Office is responsible for (i) partnering with GIC’s investment teams to integrate sustainability-related considerations in the investment process through the co-development of methodologies, tools, and frameworks, (ii) conducting industry-leading sustainability research that informs the firm’s view on financial materiality and direction on sustainability-themed investing, (iii) defining GIC’s public stance on sustainable investing and the metrics used to measure the sustainability performance of the portfolio, and (iv) providing trusted advice to GIC’s clients to support their sustainable investing strategy. These responsibilities are executed in close collaboration with asset class department-level sustainability experts, and with middle office and corporate services leaders.

What will you do as an Analyst/Associate, Sustainable Investment Strategy Analyst?

  • Conduct fundamental research and analysis on sector, market and technology trends to identify sustainability alpha opportunities at the right scale.
  • Support the development of frameworks and methodologies for sustainable investment strategy design and implementation.
  • Collaborate with investment teams to tailor sustainable investment strategies for different asset classes with the objective to improve risk-adjusted returns and uncover value creation opportunities.
  • Evaluate company transition plans and country-sector transition pathways to inform transition investment and engagement strategies.
  • Systematically landscape and compare sustainable investment strategies and methodologies in the industry and at peer institutions through desktop research and primary interviews.
  • Support internal initiatives on sustainability integration and climate risks and opportunities for portfolio companies (e.g. Negative Screening, Active Engagement, Proxy Voting).
  • Develop and manage internal databases to measure, track and categorise sustainable investment trends and resources.
  • Provide support on ad hoc research, duties and projects as needed.

What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?

  • Bachelor’s degree or above; preferred background in Finance, Economics, Sustainability/Climate or related fields.
  • 1-4 years of professional experience in the financial industry and/or sustainability-related roles.
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills, with a proven track record of conducting structured, rigorous, and insightful sustainable investment research.
  • Strong financial analysis and corporate valuation experience, familiarity with investment approaches for one (or more) asset classes.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to distill complex technical concepts into clear, concise investment insights. Experience in presenting to diverse audiences is a plus.
  • Self-starter with project management experience and ability to independently coordinate multiple stakeholders to drive results against project timelines.
  • Data analytics and statistical modelling skills preferred but not required.
