AMRO Director

The ASEAN+3 Macroeconomic Research Office (AMRO) is an international organization established to contribute to the macroeconomic and financial resilience and stability of the ASEAN+3 region – comprising 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and China; Hong Kong, China; Japan; and Korea – through macroeconomic surveillance, supporting regional financing arrangements (RFAs), and providing technical assistance (TA) to members. In addition, it serves as a regional knowledge hub (RKH) and facilitates ASEAN+3 financial cooperation.

AMRO is seeking a visionary leader for the position of Director. The responsibility of this pivotal role is to head the organization to ensure efficient and timely surveillance of ASEAN+3 economies during both peace and crisis time, and any other related work set by the Executive Committee in accordance with the Agreement Establishing AMRO.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The AMRO Director will perform the following functions:

1. Provide the Executive Committee with periodic assessments of macroeconomic and financial conditions and policies in the region.
2. Be accountable to the Executive Committee and subject to its general control.
3. Be chief of the staff of AMRO and, unless the Executive Committee decides otherwise, be responsible for the organization, appointment and dismissal of staff and overall performance of AMRO.
4. Represent AMRO and conduct the current business of AMRO.
5. Submit to the Executive Committee an annual report.
6. Submit to the Executive Committee a plan of the staffing levels, annual budget, and annual work programme of AMRO for review and approval.

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates should possess:

1. Outstanding professional capability in the fields of macroeconomics and international finance, in-depth knowledge and experience in macroeconomic policy-making; demonstrate extensive experience in regional macroeconomic monitoring and analysis.
2. Good and wide network contacts internationally and extensive engagements in international economic and financial cooperation.
3. Considerable experience in leading diverse teams in an international or regional cross-cultural environment and proven capability to manage an organization of the complexity and size of AMRO to ensure high performance, organizational efficiency and financial robustness.
4. Excellent communication skills and effective interactions with key policymakers at regional and global levels.
5. Overall leadership and vision in the formulation and implementation of the organizational strategies for AMRO's future development and regional financial cooperation.

TERM

The AMRO Director will serve a three-year term, with the possibility of a one-time extension for up to three additional years. The selected candidate is expected to join AMRO in May 2025.
