Job description

PhD Position in the development of therapies to restore disrupted circadian rhythms

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

To be a doctoral student means to devote oneself to a research project under supervision of experienced researchers and following an individual study plan. For a doctoral degree, the equivalent of four years of full-time doctoral education is required.

The research group

The doctoral student will be part of the Chronobiology research group, led by Dr. Paul Petrus, at the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Karolinska Institutet. The group focuses on circadian cross-tissue coordination and how disruptions to this system result in metabolic and mental morbidities. The team combines experimental and computational approaches, including transcriptomics, bioinformatics, in vitro systems and animal models, to understand the mechanisms underlying chronodisruption.

The doctoral student project and the duties of the doctoral student

The project investigates how physiology is influenced by circadian disruption and approaches to reset the system. This will be done using animal models, cell culture systems, and bioinformatics. The student will design and perform experiments, analyze large multi-organ circadian datasets, and contribute to scientific publications. The role requires strong motivation, a collaborative mindset, and an interest in chronobiology, molecular biology, and bioinformatics.
