Our client, a premier medical facility, is currently looking for a Wound Care Nurse to be based in Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia. For this role, you will have the following responsibilities:
- Serve as a consultant, expert clinical resource for patients with wounds, ostomies, and continence needs.
- Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and re-assess (as indicated) the care of patients with abdominal stomas, acute or chronic wounds (e.g. draining wounds, fistulae, pressure ulcers), and/or continence concerns.
- Provide appropriate debridement of devitalized tissue (e.g. conservative sharp debridement, silver nitrate [AgNO3] cauterization of non-proliferative wound edges, hyper granulation tissue, or to control minor bleeding).
- Provide appropriate education to patients, patients undergoing ostomy surgery caregivers regarding skin care, wound management, care of percutaneous tubes, and draining wound/fistulae management, for.
- Mark the stoma site preoperatively by determining the appropriate site for stoma placement, with consideration of the patient’s anatomical markings, physical capabilities, and lifestyle.
- Assess the stoma and stoma functioning and recommends appropriate procedures for stoma care (e.g. measures/fits a pouching system, teaches care of stoma/peristomal skin and pouch).
- Provide education to patients and significant others regarding the care of the stoma and peristomal skin, and any special considerations that should be reported to the physician
- Evaluate individual patient/family outcomes in response to the plan of care and the WOC nurse’s clinical interventions.
- Collaborate/coordinate/communicate care with nurses, the physician, and other health care team members to implement the plan of care and meet the rehabilitation needs for patients with WOC needs.
- Evaluate the progress or lack of progress toward wound healing and recommends changes in procedure or products as indicated.
- Provide educational opportunities to update other health care professionals including new staff about current guidelines/standards of care for patients/populations with WOC needs or risks.
- Develop and monitor standards of care and assist in the formulation and evaluation of procedures, protocols, and policies to maintain best practice.
- Engage in research, measurement of quality outcomes, and safety projects, as appropriate.
- Assist with selection and instruction of patients in the use of an appropriate pouching system and accessories, including where and how to obtain supplies.
- Provide outpatient services including home healthcare patients.
- Coordinate discharge plans including follow-up visits with the WOC nurse as necessary and makes referrals for home health services if needed.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you need to meet the following criteria:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required.
- Must be eligible to take the SCFHS exam.
- Preferably with valid SCFHS Nursing Specialist/Technician license/certificate.
- Current licensure as a professional registered nurse.
- Proficient in English
- International certified in Wound Care and management.
- 5 years’ experience in an acute care setting as a Wound Care Nurse Specialist.
