Job Description Summary
The Sterile Processing Technician 1 works in JHAH SPS. Provide processes for reusable items through decontamination, sorting, packaging, sterilizing, and storing procedures. Prepares case carts. Receives guidance and direction from the technician based on organizational and departmental policies and procedures and approved electronic competency evaluation system used in JHAH to improve the well-being of all patients. As required, work is performed on any shift in the Sterile Processing Services of the Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH) facilities. Working hours are assigned to meet operational needs and may include on-call and scheduled overtime.

Operational Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist in cleaning, packing, and sterilizing medical instruments
- Adhere to basic sterilization protocols and guidelines
- Monitor equipment under supervision and ensure quality standards are met
- Collaborate with senior technicians to develop foundational skills in sterile processing
- Coordinate with clinical teams to support patient care through effective sterile processing
- Plan and direct the processing, preparation, storing, dispensing, checking, and ordering of supplies and equipment
- Participate in and assist the segment staff in carrying out the segment's function assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Keep aware of safety hazards in the segment and take necessary corrective action to prevent accidents and apply quality assurance as appropriate
- Make verbal/written reports to the segment head regarding the condition and functioning of the equipment in the assigned area (e.g., processing sterilizers, aerators, washers, computer terminals, and printers)
- Attend safety and in-service education programs
- Perform other miscellaneous related duties as requested
- Conduct routine inspection of all equipment used in SPS area
Minimum Education RequiredDiploma in Sterile Processing, Allied Health, or a related field is required. Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare or Science is preferred.
Professional Certifications RequiredCertification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) is required.
Years of ExperienceNo prior experience or up to 2 years of relevant experience in SPS.
