Basic Function:
Responsible for assisting and supporting the Department Chairman in:
Planning and executing the operation of the Emergency Department to provide efficient Emergency Department (ED) services and meet the patient care and personnel needs;
Maintaining a high-level of professional performance in accordance with:
Professional Medical Ethics
Hospital Medical Staff by-laws
Standards & Laws of the Ministry of Health in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and any other applicable regulations.
Adherence to implementation of regulations within the department in accordance with hospital and departmental Policies and Procedures.
Providing effective leadership role model in the department.
Complies with and actively participates in the ED quality / performance improvement plan using approved measurable performance improvement criteria, indicators and standards.
He/She assumes the overall duties and responsibilities for the medical services provided during his shift, reporting to ED Physician shift supervisor after working hours or the ED Chairman.
Principal Duties:
Attends & performs clinical patient care shift duties, of his assigned shift area in the ED, (RAZ & RAR). Commensurate with his / her education, experience, credentialing and job description.
Adhere to hospital / departmental regulations pertaining to essential; physician ED Chart documentation, utilization of personal I.D. stampers and electronic medical records applications.
Assists as requested, in the design, implementation, reviews and updates of Policies & Procedures for the ED every 2 years.
Orients and keeps himself updated (initially & periodically after return from annual vacations) regarding the most currently revised hospital and department policies, procedures, standards and rules.
Orients, advises and updates members / colleagues in the ED regarding the most currently revised hospital and department policies, procedures, standards and regulations.
Keeps his certification status (BLS, ACLS, ATLS, and PALS) updated as well as maintaining his required CME&T Credits for the Saudi Council for Health Specializations (SCHS)
Participates, as requested, in the implementation of the ED Performance Improvement Plan (PIP); criteria, standards & indicators to evaluate, monitor, and implement changes and reevaluates changes to improve the quality and appropriateness of practice by the department; in accordance with JCIA standards.
Attends and participates in the monthly meetings, departmental staff meetings, mortality and morbidity and quality improvement.
Attends and participates in the periodic ED Staff Physicians meetings or other ad-hoc meetings, as requested.
Attends and participates in assigned departmental & hospital committees.
Self-Monitors, interprets and reports concerning statistics, productivity, utilization, and meeting established departmental indicators and standards.
Liaison & coordination with Patient Relations Officers & or Supervisor on patient complaints, sick leave issuance, medical report issuance & follow-up.
Assists in conducting annual performance appraisals of ED department staff as requested by ED Chairman.
Participates in the maintenance of medical contingency disaster plans for the ED.
Residency Training Program participation; including an attendance to (> 50%) of the resident half day activities.
Become familiar and competently understand his role expectations during Disaster Response (Code Black); primarily that of leading and coordinating designated Triage Teams as per the disaster plan.
Notifies the ED Chairman, through Adult Care Section, of his/her absence and arranges for an alternate from the department to assume his duties.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Chairman / Deputy Chairman Adult Care Section Department of Emergency Medicine, which are within the post-holder’s qualifications and capabilities.
Essential and Preferred Requirements
Education:
Medical Practitioner who has some Emergency Medicine / Critical Care / Internal Medicine / General Surgery Training / Experience - Essential
Registration with the Saudi Council for Health Specialization (SCHS) and current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia - Essential
Pediatric Emergency Medicine - Essential
Work Experience:
Two years’ experience post-medical degree qualification with some specialty training as above - Essential
Have high standards of medical ethics, sense of responsibility as judged by his supervisor and colleagues - Essential
Ability to proficiently achieve / perform all procedures in the attached Medical Staff Patient Care Privileging Form - Essential
Must comprehend and avoid potential unethical conduct or conflict of interest situations - Essential
Certified: Basic Life Support (BLS) - Essential
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Essential
Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) - Preferred
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) - Preferred
Pediatric Advanced Life Support - Preferred
Exhibits professionalism & excellent interpersonal communication skills - Essential
Is Knowledgeable of the Hospital Medical Staff by-laws - Essential
