Job description

Provide high standard, cost effective, attending and consulting care in the respective specialty to JHAH eligible recipients. Carry out duties within the area of expertise and competence approved by the hospital Credential & Privileging Authority.

Scope

Participate in and attend service clinical, multi-disciplinary and educational rounds including morning reports and sign out rounds when appropriate. Attend and participate in service/department Quality and Safety activities including reviews, audit and presentations. Report patients' adverse events to the appropriate department/service office. Attend and contribute to service and department business meetings. Prepare and provide patient reports as required within the hospital policy. Participate actively when assigned to a given committee. Keep apprised with, and adhere to, hospital and departmental policies and bylaws. Delegate and supervise house staff and nursing staff as appropriate. Participate in teaching and educational activities of junior staff, medical students, and interns. Delegate and supervise operative procedures appropriately. Ensure legible and timely entries into patients' records. Maintain complete patient case records. Adhere to hospital policy regarding patient record confidentiality. Participate in medical records audits when required to do so.

He/she is in daily contact with hospitalized patients and their families, nurses, other Staff Physicians, Professional Development Physicians, and other medical staff. He/she is also in close contact with Emergency Medical Service physicians, Clinical Medicine Services physicians, Surgical & Diagnostic Services physicians, Radiology Services, as well as other respective services requesting specialty-specific care (e.g., Internal medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, etc.).

Perform the duties as per the Privileges recommended by the Chief of Specialty Services and approved by the Credentials & Privileges Committee.

  • Admit patients through the Emergency room, out-patient clinics and accept patients from other hospitals.
  • Conduct daily rounds on assigned patients during work days.
  • Foster teamwork in collaborating with all involved healthcare professionals.
  • Ensure assigned in-patients are attended to during weekends and holidays as per specific service on-call arrangement.
  • Respond to emergency calls in a timely manner and attend to patients when required to do so.
  • Participate in trauma care, Code blue care, or rapid response care according to the established role by credential and privilege given.
  • Answer in-patient consultations within the required timeframe in conjunction with consulting services.
  • Carry out appropriate discharge procedures as per existing hospital policy.
  • Consult with colleagues from the same specialty and other specialties when required.
  • Participate in the rotational 24-hour on-call coverage.
  • Attend to assigned out-patient surgical/medical and procedural clinics in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with out-patient care nursing team and other professionals to maximize patient benefit from out-patient clinic visits.
  • Refer patients to other services as appropriate.

Operating Room / Outpatient Procedure Area Duties: (only applicable for associate consultant surgeon)

  • Ensure patients are adequately prepared for the required surgery/procedure.
  • Maintain punctuality and professionalism in the operating room environment.
  • Ensure appropriate operative notes are dictated in a timely manner.
  • Keep patients' caregivers/guardians informed about the outcome of the procedure.
  • Follow the operating room policies and procedures regarding patient processing through surgery.
  • Work closely with anesthesia colleagues to ensure patient safety during the perioperative period.
  • Work closely with other consultants and hospital staff in a manner that reflects the hospital's mission and core values.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with patients and families.
  • Work in a cooperative manner with the chain of command to resolve concerns and complaints.
  • Promptly complete all medical records as directed by hospital policies and procedures.

Experience

Three years of residency training in a specialty in a recognized training program.

Certifications/Other Requirements as Applicable

  • Must hold a valid license to practice medicine.
  • Excellent command of verbal and written English.
  • Ability to adjust to group practice in an industrial environment.
