SSR - DBT - Communications and Marketing Advisor (HEO)

The British Embassy Riyadh is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Communications and Marketing Advisor to join our dynamic Department of Business and Trade (DBT) team, on a fixed-term contract until 31st March 2025.

This role is pivotal in supporting and amplifying the GREAT Futures campaign, following the landmark success of GREAT Futures launch event in Saudi Arabia, the largest trade mission from the UK in the past decade. The successful candidate will bring a blend of proactive and reactive communication skills to effectively engage with businesses and stakeholders, ensuring the momentum from the GREAT Futures launch continues to build and resonate.

DBT is the British Government's trade and investment development organisation. Its aim is to enhance the competitiveness of companies in the UK through overseas trade and investments and attract high-level quality foreign direct investment into the UK. We work with UK-based businesses to ensure their success in international markets and encourage overseas companies to bring their high-quality investment to the UK. DBT has a network of trade teams across Saudi Arabia that work closely together to deliver services to UK and Saudi businesses.

Skills

This is an exciting and historic time to be in Saudi Arabia. In recent years, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has accelerated its Vision 2030 programme of social and economic liberalisation to diversify its economy. This programme has driven an almost unprecedented investment in new infrastructure, technologies, and skills. Saudi's famous giga-projects, including NEOM and Diriyah, have already committed $1tr. These include:

  • NEOM, a $500bn regional development comprised of flagship projects such as The Line (a sustainable vertical city) and the world's largest green hydrogen project;
  • In Riyadh alone: Qiddiya (largest entertainment, sports & culture city in the world); Diriyah Gate Project (largest heritage project in the world); Sports Boulevard Project (at 135km, the longest longitudinal park in the world); King Salman Park Project (largest park in the world); Riyadh Art Project (largest open art gallery in the world); Tuwaiq Tower project (tallest heritage tower in the world); Riyadh Metro and Airport projects (6 runways); the King Abdullah International Gardens Project (largest indoor garden project); New Murabba (largest Downtown project in the world).

In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing the GREAT Futures strategic marketing plan, working within a hybrid team environment that spans BE Riyadh, DBT HQ, and the broader Middle East, Africa, and Pakistan (MEAP) region. You will manage and nurture the extensive system of contacts generated through the GREAT Futures event, ensuring ongoing engagement and collaboration. This role requires a creative thinker who can contribute innovative ideas alongside routine social media and communication activities, ensuring the campaign's objectives are met and exceeded.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing strategy for the GREAT Futures campaign.
  • Engage proactively with businesses and stakeholders, leveraging both proactive and reactive communication methods.
  • Manage and cultivate the network of contacts established during GREAT Futures, ensuring sustained and effective engagement.
  • Collaborate closely with embassy communications and marketing leads, as well as teams across DBT HQ and MEAP, to deliver the GREAT Futures reactive and proactive campaign objectives.
  • Provide creative input and ideas to enhance GREAT Futures campaign initiatives, alongside managing day-to-day social media activities.
  • Work within a project management matrix, contributing to broader project goals and ensuring alignment with overall campaign strategy.
  • Support the wider mission like other members of embassy staff, including but not limited to crisis support.

The jobholder may also take on other ad hoc tasks as and when required, including participating in the Embassy's emergency planning and any response to a crisis.

Eligibility

  • The position is available to Saudi Nationals and to current holders of valid Saudi residence permits or transferable iqamas. The successful candidate will be required to transfer their sponsorship to the British Embassy.
  • The successful candidate must be able to secure a local residence and work permit in Saudi (iqama) OR already have the right to work and reside in Saudi.
  • The British Embassy provides visa sponsorship. The successful candidate will be required to transfer their visa under the Embassy's sponsorship.
