Job description

This is an exceptional opportunity for someone who has the qualities, skills and experience to be part of the team that will continue to push Downe House Riyadh as the leading girls school in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Downe House Riyadh is looking for an experienced, caring, and proactive SENCO to lead our Special Educational Needs department. This role involves creating and managing individualized education plans (IEPs), providing hands-on support for students, and guiding staff in delivering inclusive learning, utilising adaptive teaching strategies.

Our ideal candidate is not only skilled in SEN best practices but also sensitive to the cultural context of the Kingdom, ensuring respectful and effective support. The successful candidate will make a significant contribution in helping to strengthen the provision for SEN pupils at Downe House Riyadh whilst also having excellent opportunities for career development and progression to middle leadership positions and beyond.

The Person

The successful candidate will be someone who:

  • Designs and oversees well-structured, inclusive, and adaptive learning experiences tailored to meet the needs of pupils with diverse abilities.
  • Develops and implements individualised education plans (IEPs), ensuring a balanced, relevant, and supportive curriculum for all pupils in their care.
  • Sets high expectations, inspiring pupils with SEN to achieve their best and nurturing resilience and confidence.
  • Provides compassionate and effective pastoral care, understanding the unique needs of each pupil.
  • Manages the Learning Support Team, providing direction and opportunities for their professional growth.
  • Works closely with parents, maintaining strong communication and effective triangulation between school and home.
  • Engages actively in the co-curricular programme and whole-school initiatives, fostering a sense of community.
  • Works collaboratively and supportively with all staff, maintaining open communication with teachers, parents, and external professionals.
  • Demonstrates a flexible, positive approach, with a genuine commitment to going above and beyond for pupils with SEN.
