Job Summary
The Registrar Hematologist is responsible for providing the care of his/her patients, maintaining a high level of professional performance in accordance with:
- Evidenced based medicine.
- Professional medical ethics and JCIA standards.
- Hospital medical by-laws.
- Laws of the Ministry of Health in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and any other applicable regulations according to the departmental quality plan.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensures through his actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion, and understanding is given to every patient served at the NMC Hospitals and Clinics.
- Performs history taking, physical examinations, interpretation of common diagnostic tests, and documents patient condition on admission in the specified admissions sheet as per JCIA standards when the registrar is not available or when advised by the Head of the Department.
- Admits patients from the hospital facilities (E.R., OPD) on his own or as determined by HOD upon appropriate discussion with the consultant.
- Evaluates new admissions and coordinates a plan of investigation to establish a diagnosis and a management course with or without consultant assistance as determined by HOD.
- Conducts daily ward rounds to all inpatients in the department, on his own and/or as a team with other department staff as determined by HOD.
- Documents plan of patient management in a legible, accurate manner and maintains appropriate records of all patients with accurate, timely legible completion of patients' medical records.
- Seeks the advice of or help from the Consultant whenever the condition of a patient merits further expertise.
- Prepares all discharge summaries, death reports, and special reports on related patients when the registrar is not available or when advised by the Head of the Department.
- Presents new admissions to the department through the daily morning reports when on duty when the registrar is not available.
- Participates actively in the on-call rota of the department for patient care and admissions. Responds to emergencies to offer medical care and advice on problems related to his/her specialty.
- Participates in the delivery of medical care in outpatient services (e.g., O.P.D. and E.R.) on his own as determined by HOD.
- Assists Senior staff (Consultant) in performing diagnostic or therapeutic procedures to patients in his field of specialty.
- Supervises the Junior Staff in conducting their duties and responsibilities as designated by the department.
- Actively participates in the department's educational and training activities.
- Participates actively in any training program or Educational Activity for training of junior staff, nurses, etc.
- Abides by department Policies and Procedures as well as hospital by-laws, Rules, and Regulations.
- Performs administrative, organizational, or any other tasks as assigned by the Head of the Department.
- Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of employee's knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Responsible for educating patients/families as per their needs and to implement their whole role regarding the patient/family education process as mentioned in patient & family education policy and procedure (NSP-GEN-014), including documentation in the patient medical record.
- Involves the patient/families in the plan of care and respects patients/families regarding their goals and choices of patient care.
- Provides health promotion and health teaching through methods appropriate to a patient's developmental level, learning needs, readiness and ability to learn, language preference, culture, and situations.
- Allots time necessary to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient education provided to patients/families with appropriate documentation.
- Participates in CME in national/international meetings. This includes Morbidity and Mortality Meetings, Morning Reports, Grand Rounds, Clinical Lectures, Demonstrations, Tutorials, Resident seminars, Journal Club, X-ray and Clinico-Pathological Conferences.

Qualifications:
A minimum of:
EDUCATION:
Required:
University Medical Degree, or Equivalent, (MRCP, American Board)
Desirable:
Higher qualifications in his specialty
EXPERIENCE:
Required:
At least three (3) years in his/her specialty after qualification.
Current license to practice medicine in the place of residence.
Registration as Senior Registrar with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
Desirable:
Additional experience in the sub-specialty.
