Job Purpose

To lead and manage all contractual and claims-related activities on major building and infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance, mitigating risks, and maximizing commercial outcomes.

Job Responsibilities

Senior Claims Manager

  1. Lead and manage all aspects of contract administration, including review and negotiation of contracts.
  2. Assess and analyze contractual claims, including entitlement reviews, time extensions, and cost claims.
  3. Prepare and defend claims, including counterclaims, and support legal proceedings.
  4. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to minimize contractual disputes.
  5. Collaborate with project stakeholders (e.g., Commercial Director, Operational/Technical Staff, Planning Teams) on contractual and claims matters.
  6. Prepare and present concise and insightful reports on contractual and claims issues to management.
  7. Mentor and guide junior team members on contract management and claims best practices.
  8. Leverage expertise in FIDIC contracts to ensure compliance and project success.
  9. Negotiate and resolve contractual disputes with contractors effectively.

Job Requirements

Experience:

  1. Minimum 12 years in contract management, administration, claims preparation, and rebuttal on major building/infrastructure projects.
  2. Proven track record of managing all contractual matters on a major project.
  3. Highly experienced in assessing contractual claims, including entitlement reviews, time extensions, and cost claims.
  4. Experience in preparing and defending claims, including counterclaims.
  5. Experience in supporting legal proceedings (arbitration, adjudication).

Skills:

  1. Excellent contractual letter writing skills.
  2. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  3. Ability to prepare well-written, concise reports.
  4. Excellent written and spoken English.
  5. Strong negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
  6. Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  7. Ability to implement risk mitigation measures and think strategically.

Knowledge:

  1. Extensive experience with FIDIC forms of contract.

Qualifications:

  1. Degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, Construction Management, or similar.
  2. LLM/MSc in Construction Law or LLB is highly desirable.
  3. Membership in recognized professional bodies (e.g., MRICS, MICE, MIOB) is required.
  4. Membership (or Fellowship) in Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb/FCIArb) is highly desirable.
  5. Minimum 5 years of experience with a professional Claims Consultancy firm.
  6. Minimum 5 years of experience as a Claims Manager with an International Contractor.
  7. Experience working in the Middle East (preferable, not essential).
