Job description

Job Summary:
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the production processes of the construction chemicals manufacturing facility. This role ensures that all products are produced in accordance with quality standards, cost-effectively, and on time. The Production Manager will lead the production team, manage resources, optimize processes, and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemical manufacturing, production management, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Production Planning & Scheduling:
    • Develop and implement detailed production plans and schedules to meet customer demands and order deadlines.
    • Coordinate production activities across different shifts to ensure efficient resource utilization and minimal downtime.
    • Forecast material, equipment, and labor needs based on production plans and ensure the availability of required resources.
  2. Process Optimization & Efficiency:
    • Analyze and optimize production processes to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and lower production costs.
    • Implement best practices in manufacturing to enhance product quality and streamline production workflows.
    • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as production output, quality, and efficiency, and take corrective actions as necessary.
    • Identify and implement process improvements and automation solutions to enhance production capabilities.
  3. Quality Control & Assurance:
    • Ensure that all products are produced according to quality standards, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
    • Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to develop and maintain robust quality control procedures.
    • Conduct regular inspections and audits of the production process to ensure compliance with internal and external quality standards.
    • Investigate and resolve any production issues related to product defects or non-conformance.
    • Oversee safety protocols in the production facility, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
    • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations, and promote a culture of safety within the production team.
    • Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and training programs to minimize workplace hazards and accidents.
    • Develop and implement procedures for handling hazardous materials in line with industry best practices.
    • Lead, mentor, and manage the production team, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
    • Provide training and development opportunities to ensure team members have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
    • Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and provide feedback to improve individual and team performance.
    • Manage staffing levels, schedules, and shift allocations to ensure smooth operations.
  4. Inventory & Resource Management:
    • Oversee the management of raw materials, chemicals, and other production inputs to ensure timely availability and cost efficiency.
    • Collaborate with the purchasing and supply chain teams to maintain adequate inventory levels while minimizing excess stock.
    • Optimize the use of resources and reduce waste, ensuring cost-effective production practices.
  5. Budgeting & Cost Control:
    • Assist in the preparation of production budgets and manage production costs to meet financial targets.
    • Identify opportunities to reduce costs without compromising product quality or safety.
    • Monitor production expenses and take corrective actions when necessary to ensure adherence to budget.
  6. Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving:
    • Address and resolve any production-related issues that may arise, including equipment malfunctions, material shortages, or quality concerns.
    • Lead root cause analysis for production problems and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  7. Reporting & Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date production records, reports, and documentation.
    • Prepare and present regular production reports to senior management, highlighting key metrics, challenges, and achievements.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory documentation requirements and internal reporting procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in production management, preferably within the chemical manufacturing or construction chemicals industry.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, production planning, and resource management.
  • Familiarity with quality control standards, safety regulations, and environmental compliance in chemical production.
  • Proven experience in process optimization, cost control, and efficiency improvements.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and production management software is preferred.
  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements specific to the chemical or construction chemicals industry.
  • Multilingual proficiency (English + local language) is an advantage.
