Job Purpose

The Mechanical Procurement Engineer is responsible for managing and coordinating the procurement of mechanical equipment, materials, and services necessary for the successful execution of construction and engineering projects. This role focuses on identifying cost-effective procurement strategies, sourcing quality products, and ensuring timely delivery to meet project requirements. The Mechanical Procurement Engineer collaborates closely with suppliers, project managers, and technical teams to achieve optimal procurement results.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement Planning and Strategy

  • Develop and implement procurement plans for mechanical components, equipment, and materials based on project requirements and specifications.
  • Analyze project needs and collaborate with engineering and project management teams to create efficient and cost-effective procurement strategies.
  • Identify potential suppliers and evaluate their ability to meet product quality, budget, and timeline requirements.

Supplier Sourcing and Negotiation

  • Source and prequalify suppliers of mechanical equipment and materials, ensuring they meet industry standards and project specifications.
  • Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers to secure the best possible terms for quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers to ensure consistent, reliable sources for project needs.

Cost Control and Budget Management

  • Monitor and manage procurement costs to ensure alignment with project budgets, implementing cost-saving initiatives where possible.
  • Track and report on procurement expenditures, analyzing any variances and adjusting procurement strategies as needed.
  • Support value engineering efforts to identify potential savings in materials without compromising quality or project requirements.

Logistics and Delivery Coordination

  • Coordinate delivery schedules with suppliers, ensuring materials and equipment are available when needed on-site to prevent project delays.
  • Address and resolve any logistical or supply chain issues that may impact project timelines.
  • Oversee the tracking of orders, including documentation and delivery status, to maintain transparency and accountability.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Ensure that all procured materials and equipment meet project quality standards, specifications, and industry regulations.
  • Collaborate with QA/QC teams to conduct inspections and resolve any discrepancies with suppliers.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and mechanical product innovations.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare and maintain accurate procurement records, including purchase orders, supplier contracts, and delivery documentation.
  • Provide regular reports on procurement activities, costs, and supplier performance to project and procurement management.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards in all procurement activities.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in procurement, preferably within the mechanical or construction industry.
  • Technical Proficiency:
  • Strong understanding of mechanical equipment, materials, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in procurement and inventory management software.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Negotiation Skills: Proven ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers and secure favorable terms.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze costs, supplier proposals, and logistics to make strategic procurement decisions.
  • Project Management: Skilled in managing procurement timelines and coordinating with project schedules.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with suppliers, project teams, and management.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of precision in reviewing technical specifications and supplier documentation.
