Job Title: Planning Engineer (Mechanical)

Job Description:

The Planning Engineer (Mechanical) is responsible for coordinating and planning mechanical engineering projects, managing schedules, and ensuring all mechanical-related project aspects align with timelines, resources, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Project Scheduling and Planning:
• Develop detailed project schedules using planning software (Primavera P6, MS Project).
• Define project milestones, deliverables, and activities.
• Coordinate with project stakeholders, including project managers, engineers, and procurement, to establish project timelines and objectives.
• Resource Allocation and Management:
• Assess resource requirements (labor, materials, equipment) for each phase of the project.
• Allocate resources efficiently, ensuring timely project progression.
• Track resource usage and report discrepancies or shortfalls.
• Monitoring and Progress Tracking:
• Regularly monitor project progress and compare actual performance with planned timelines.
• Generate progress reports, charts, and critical path analyses.
• Identify potential delays or issues and propose mitigation strategies.
• Budget and Cost Control:
• Develop project budgets and ensure expenses stay within limits.
• Monitor costs related to materials, labor, and equipment.
• Report cost variances and suggest corrective actions to keep the project on budget.
• Coordination with Cross-functional Teams:
• Work closely with mechanical, civil, and electrical teams to ensure all disciplines align with project schedules.
• Conduct meetings with project teams to discuss progress, challenges, and strategies.
• Act as the primary point of contact for project planning issues.
• Quality Assurance:
• Ensure adherence to quality and safety standards in all mechanical engineering project phases.
• Review and ensure compliance with industry codes, regulations, and best practices.
• Documentation and Reporting:
• Maintain accurate project documentation, including schedules, budgets, and progress reports.
• Submit weekly and monthly reports on project status, resource allocation, and budget performance.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience: 5 years of experience in project planning, ideally in the mechanical or engineering sector.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, and familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems.
• Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, especially in identifying potential project delays and budget overruns.
• Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective project coordination.
• Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Additional Requirements:

• Experience in oil & gas, power generation, or construction projects is preferred.
• Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements in mechanical engineering.
• Professional certifications (PMP, AACE) are a plus.
