Job Description Summary
The Pharmacy Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive patient-centered care within any assigned JHAH premises that optimizes the use of medication and promotes health, wellness, and disease prevention. The Pharmacy Specialist is expected to develop and implement individualized therapeutic regimens based on pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles to achieve cost-effective and desired patient outcomes, and participate in general patient care rounds with medical staff to optimize pharmacotherapeutic outcomes. A Pharmacy Specialist shall care for patients in all healthcare settings, including inpatient, ambulatory, and clinics, and collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
Strategic Roles & Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the team to develop pharmacotherapy protocols and/or conduct medication use evaluations as assigned by the D AND T subcommittee.
- Serve as pharmacy representative for the assigned quality improvement teams, unit-based safety projects, or JHAH committees.
- Participate in service-wide implementation of performance and outcome improvement initiatives to optimize organizational effectiveness, efficiency, and digital transformation.
- Conduct and participate in JHAH pharmacy branding activities including but not limited to publishing articles, publishing posters, serving as a speaker in conferences, and participating in community awareness activities to enhance advancement of JHAH pharmacy profession.
Operational Roles & Responsibilities- Process all applicable medication order related functionalities at assigned units as per JHAH operational policies including but not limited to order verification, pharmacokinetics dosing, therapeutic monitoring, narcotic stewardship, antimicrobial stewardship, attending clinical rounds, providing patient-centered pharmaceutical care in decentralized and centralized settings, and patient counseling, ensuring proper documentation of medication review notes, progress notes, workload, and operational reports, pharmacotherapeutic interventions, and other patient care related functionalities mandated by operational need or manager directives on a daily basis.
- Perform sterile/non-sterile compounding related functionalities at assigned units as per JHAH operational policies.
- Perform medication stock continuity management functionalities including but not limited to deprescribing programs, narcotic stewardship, review usage patterns, shortages, and suggest alternatives.
- Provide specialized didactic education to pharmacy staff, pharmacy interns, pharmacy residents, and other health care professionals. Precept pharmacy interns and residents.
Minimum Education RequiredRecognized Pharm D degree by Saudi Arabia or equivalent with a minimum of 7 years of professional experience in clinical pharmacy practice, OR,
Master of Clinical Pharmacy degree with a minimum of five years experience in relevant clinical pharmacy practice, OR
Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy with a minimum of seven years experience in clinical pharmacy with Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS).
Professional Certifications RequiredSCFHS license and Board Certification in Pharmacy Specialties (BCPS)
