Summary
As a Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at King Fahad Military Medical Complex, you will provide expert surgical care for patients with conditions affecting the mouth, jaw, face, and neck. You will be responsible for diagnosing and treating complex cases, performing advanced surgical procedures, and working alongside a multidisciplinary team to ensure excellent patient outcomes. Additionally, you will contribute to education, training, research, and quality improvement initiatives within the department.
Education / Qualifications Required
- Basic medical degree from a recognized institution.
- Post-qualification certification from one of the following:
- USA: The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)
- Canada: Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Certificate (RCPS-C)
- UK & Ireland: GMC/CCST Specialist Register
- Australia & New Zealand: Fellowship from the Royal College (FRACP)
- Western Europe: Equivalent certification to the above
Experience Required
- Minimum 3 years post-board certification for candidates from USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and France (DES).
- Minimum 5 years post-board certification for candidates from Spain, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Austria, Netherlands, Greece, and France (DIS).
License & Certifications
- Current and in Good Standing Medical License to practice in country of residence.
- BLS/ACLS Certification (Basic & Advanced Life Support).
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage oral and maxillofacial conditions, including trauma, congenital disorders, tumors, infections, and facial deformities.
- Perform advanced surgical procedures, including orthognathic surgery, facial reconstruction, TMJ surgery, dental implants, and maxillofacial trauma repair.
- Provide preoperative and postoperative care, ensuring optimal recovery and patient safety.
- Work collaboratively with dentists, orthodontists, ENT specialists, plastic surgeons, and oncologists for multidisciplinary treatment planning.
- Participate in on-call duties, responding to maxillofacial emergencies such as fractures, infections, and airway management.
Academic & Research Responsibilities
- Train and supervise Associate Consultants, Assistant Consultants, residents, and medical students.
- Engage in clinical research and contribute to advancements in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
- Stay updated with the latest surgical techniques and best practices in the field.
Administrative & Quality Improvement
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control protocols, and patient safety regulations.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives for continuous development of surgical services.
- Educate patients and families about treatment options, risks, and post-surgical care.
