Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Gender: Male (Expat position)
Company: ABIS - KSA
Project: Oil & Gas Projects - KSA
Job Location: Saudi Arabia (Anywhere)

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instrumentation Support: Provide technical support for all types of instrumentation including level, temperature, pressure, control valves, emergency isolation valves, motor-operated valves, relief valves, flow measurement, liquid and gas metering, radar level gauges, and tank gauging systems.
  2. Technical Evaluation: Evaluate technical proposals and attend technical bid meetings for instrumentation systems.
  3. Field Troubleshooting: Apply troubleshooting skills for instrumentation and control systems, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD), Virtual Metering Systems (VMS), and auxiliary control systems.
  4. Incident Investigation: Lead or participate in the investigation of incidents using techniques like 5 Whys or Tap Root, preparing detailed reports and coordinating activities with other disciplines.
  5. Engineering Design: Prepare engineering design packages for modifications to Instrumentation and Control Systems in line with company standards, to enhance plant reliability and cope with instrumentation obsolescence.
  6. Asset Integrity Support: Conduct special studies and mechanical calculations for piping systems, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, air coolers, process furnaces, boilers, and other equipment.
  7. Field Support: Participate in major Turnarounds and emergency plant shutdowns, offering technical assistance in troubleshooting and supporting maintenance functions.
  8. Piping and Pressure Vessel Calculations: Perform mechanical calculations including wall thickness, branch reinforcement, MAWP, and other evaluations as per ASME, API standards (e.g., API 570, API 510).
  9. Fitness for Service: Perform evaluations using API 579 (Fitness for Service) to assess equipment conditions and provide recommendations for repairs or continued operation.
  10. Design Reviews: Review and approve contractor designs for piping, ensuring compliance with ASME, API, and company standards.
  11. Maintenance and Operations Support: Collaborate with the Operations, Maintenance, and Turnaround teams for instrumentation and mechanical support during plant operations.

Qualifications and Experience:

Experience:
Minimum of 8-15 years in the Refinery, NGLF, or Petrochemical industry, specializing in asset integrity of stationary equipment.
At least 5-10 years of field experience working in plants, specifically during major turnarounds and field troubleshooting.
In-depth experience and knowledge of best engineering practices and solid understanding of industry codes and standards (ASME, API, NACE, ASTM, ISO).

Education:
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Certifications:
ASME, API-510 (Pressure Vessel Inspection), API-570 (Process Piping), API-653 (Tank Repair and Alteration) certifications are preferable.

Skills:
Strong background in engineering software and tools used for system calculations and design.
Proficiency in analyzing and troubleshooting instrumentation and control systems.
Expertise in piping design, pressure vessel analysis, and mechanical integrity.
Strong knowledge of applicable engineering codes (ASME, API, ASTM, NACE, ISO).
Ability to interpret and apply codes and standards for mechanical equipment, piping systems, and instrumentation.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
