1. JOB DETAILS:

Position Title: Superintendent: Security

Broad Band: M12 S: Professional

Reports to: Safety and Fire Director

Department & Function: The department is responsible to overlook the implementation of the safety management system and safety programs across the assigned site in addition to overlooking the emergency response preparedness in the site as well.

This position will be focusing on safety aspects and other sections will be responsible for emergency preparedness.

2. OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:

The Manager of Safety is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing safety programs and initiatives to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for employees within the mining operation. This role involves overseeing safety compliance, conducting risk assessments, and providing leadership and guidance on safety-related matters.

3. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Qualification:

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, engineering or related field

Experience:

Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in safety management roles, with progressive experience in mining or heavy industry sectors.

Skills:

Proficiency in conducting safety inspections, audits, and investigations, and familiarity with root cause analysis methodologies and incident reporting systems.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the organization, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders.

Leadership and team management skills, with the ability to lead and develop a team of safety professionals, foster collaboration, and drive results in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

4. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Operational / Functional:

Develop, implement, and manage safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement control measures to mitigate workplace injuries and accidents.

Provide leadership and guidance to site safety coordinators, supervisors, and employees on safety protocols, procedures, and best practices to promote a culture of safety excellence.

Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses to determine the underlying causes of safety incidents, near misses, and injuries, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Coordinate safety training and education programs for employees, including new hire orientation, refresher training, and specialized safety training, to ensure competency and compliance with safety requirements.

Manage and maintain safety records, documentation, and reporting systems, including incident reports, safety data sheets, and regulatory compliance documentation, to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Liaise with regulatory agencies, industry organizations, and community stakeholders to stay updated on safety regulations, standards, and best practices, and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, engineering, and environmental health and safety (EHS), to integrate safety considerations into operational plans and activities.

Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs), such as lost time injury frequency rate (LTIFR), total recordable injury rate (TRIR), and safety compliance metrics, and implement corrective actions as needed.

Provide leadership and support during emergency response situations, such as fires, hazardous material spills, or medical emergencies, to ensure prompt and effective response and minimize risks to personnel and property.
