Job Overview:
The Junior Electrical Engineer in Maintenance is responsible for assisting in the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within a facility or project site. This role involves working closely with senior engineers and the maintenance team to ensure that all electrical components operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry standards and regulations. The position provides hands-on experience in the maintenance field, with opportunities for growth and development in electrical engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
Preventive Maintenance:
Assist in the development and execution of preventive maintenance schedules for electrical systems and equipment.
Conduct routine inspections and tests on electrical components, such as motors, transformers, switchgear, and wiring, to identify potential issues.
Perform basic maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, lubrication, and calibration of electrical equipment, under supervision.
Troubleshooting and Repair:
Assist in diagnosing electrical faults and malfunctions using testing equipment and diagnostic tools.
Support the repair and replacement of faulty electrical components, including wiring, circuit breakers, switches, and other electrical devices.
Work with senior engineers to implement corrective actions and ensure the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems.
System Monitoring and Reporting:
Monitor the performance of electrical systems and equipment, identifying any deviations from normal operation.
Document maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and tests, and report findings to the maintenance manager or senior engineer.
Assist in maintaining accurate records of all electrical systems and equipment, including maintenance logs, schematics, and technical manuals.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures when working with electrical systems and equipment.
Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations.
Participate in safety training sessions and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.
Installation Support:
Assist in the installation and commissioning of new electrical systems and equipment, including power distribution systems, lighting, and control systems.
Work with the engineering team to ensure that installations are completed according to design specifications and project timelines.
Continuous Improvement:
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the reliability and efficiency of electrical systems.
Provide feedback to senior engineers on potential areas for improvement in maintenance practices and procedures.
Stay updated on new technologies and methods in electrical maintenance to support ongoing improvement efforts.
Technical Support:
Provide technical support to other maintenance personnel, answering questions and providing guidance on electrical issues.
Assist in training junior technicians and maintenance staff on electrical maintenance procedures and safety practices.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with other departments, such as mechanical maintenance, operations, and engineering, to ensure coordinated maintenance efforts.
Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure that maintenance tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Experience: 0-2 years of experience in electrical maintenance, engineering, or a related field. Internships or co-op experience in electrical maintenance is a plus.
Technical Skills:
Basic knowledge of electrical systems, including power distribution, control systems, and lighting.
Familiarity with electrical testing and diagnostic tools, such as multimeters, insulation resistance testers, and oscilloscopes.
Understanding of electrical codes and standards, such as the National Electrical Code (NEC) or equivalent.
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve electrical issues.
Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in maintenance tasks and documentation.
