Job description

Summary
We're looking for a dynamic and innovative Learning Support Teacher with knowledge of being a SENCO, who will be a key member of our diverse, compassionate and innovative teaching team. The Learning Support Teacher will assist students in upper primary and lower senior school who are having difficulty in one curricular area or need short term support to master content or a particular skill. The role also includes administering testing during the admission process and collating relevant data. Counselling skills would also be an advantage for this role.

The Learning Support Program is a combination of pullout and inclusion help.

Position Duties

A Learning Support Teacher (LST) is a professional who works with students who require additional support in their academic and personal development. The job description may include the following duties:

  1. Demonstrate a commitment to the safety and security of children and young people (child protection).
  2. Provide one-to-one and small group support to students who require additional help in their learning.
  3. Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs) for students with learning difficulties, disabilities, or special needs.
  4. Assess students' needs and abilities to develop an appropriate support plan that addresses their unique learning requirements.
  5. Use a range of teaching approaches and resources to engage students and facilitate their learning.
  6. Provide support in the classroom to ensure that all students can access the curriculum and participate in class activities.
  7. Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues to ensure effective communication and support.
  8. Monitor and evaluate student progress to identify areas of strength and weakness and adjust support strategies accordingly.
  9. Provide professional development to classroom teachers and other staff members to help them support students with diverse learning needs.
  10. Provide basic counselling for students.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and Assistant Principal.

Qualifications And Knowledge

The ideal candidate will have:

  1. University degree in the subject area of employment (Master's degree preferred).
  2. Current teacher certification in the required subject area from a recognised institution.
  3. Demonstrated relevant experience and certification in teaching similar school programs as the applied position (preferred).

Experience And Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

Experience

  1. Prior experience as a Learning Support Teacher/Counsellor.
  2. Experience implementing the National Curriculum for England.
  3. Experience with G Suite/Microsoft Office.
  4. Prior experience as a SENCO.

Skills

  1. Ability to demonstrate a track record of continued professional development.
  2. Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  3. Good interpersonal skills in interacting with students, parents, and colleagues.
  4. Ability to supervise students in non-classroom settings.
  5. Ability to work independently and within a team.
  6. Ability to lead an after-school activity.
