Summary

Within the mission, vision and values of King Fahad Military Medical Complex, in close collaboration with medical and other healthcare team members demonstrates advanced nursing knowledge and applies this knowledge to the assessment, diagnosis, delivery and design of nursing care and interventions in the Medical Unit.

Education / Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • OR Associate Degree/Diploma or country equivalent + Bachelor’s in Nursing related field

Experience:

  • Experience from North America, Western Europe, Australia, or New Zealand is required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience post-qualification.
  • Minimum of one (1) year in Hemodialysis or a related specialty.

License:

Current and in good Standing Nursing License/Registration (RN) to practice in country of residence

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operations of the hemodialysis unit, ensuring smooth patient flow and optimal staff allocation.
  • Supervise and support the nursing staff, providing guidance and expertise in managing complex dialysis cases.
  • Oversee patient care plans, ensuring they align with evidence-based practices and address the specific needs of dialysis patients.
  • Monitor and ensure the proper functioning of dialysis machines and equipment, reporting any malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the multidisciplinary team, patients, and their families to enhance care coordination and understanding.
  • Assign staff based on patient acuity, treatment schedules, and nursing expertise to ensure safe and efficient care delivery.
  • Conduct regular patient rounds to assess treatment effectiveness, monitor patient safety, and address concerns or complications.
  • Ensure strict adherence to infection control protocols and safety guidelines to protect patients and staff in the hemodialysis unit.
  • Participate in the orientation and ongoing education of nursing staff, fostering skill development and professional growth in dialysis care.
  • Lead daily huddles or handovers to ensure clear communication of patient status, treatment progress, and any critical updates.
  • Monitor and maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient care, dialysis treatments, and unit activities.
  • Support patients and families in understanding the dialysis process, addressing their concerns, and providing emotional and educational support.
  • Collaborate in quality improvement initiatives and audits aimed at enhancing patient outcomes and unit efficiency.
  • Handle emergencies or complications during dialysis treatments, providing leadership and directing the team effectively.
  • Resolve conflicts or issues among staff or with patients/families, escalating to the Nurse Manager when necessary.
  • Advocate for the needs and rights of dialysis patients, ensuring patient-centered care is consistently delivered.
  • Assist in managing inventory, ensuring the availability of necessary supplies and medications for the dialysis unit.
  • Collaborate with the Nurse Manager in the development and implementation of policies, protocols, and procedures specific to dialysis care.
  • Provide leadership during inspections, audits, or accreditation processes to ensure compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.
  • Promote a respectful, compassionate, and culturally sensitive environment for patients, families, and staff.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned to support the hemodialysis unit’s overall function and success.
