Job description

General Summary:

  • The General Manager manages all aspects of the club including its activities and the relationships between the club and its guests, members, employees, community, government, and industry. Coordinates and administers the club’s policies as defined by Golf Saudi. Implements and monitors the budget, monitors the quality of the club’s products, and services, and ensures maximum member and guest satisfaction. Secures and protects the club’s assets, including facilities and equipment. All club employees report to the General Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • Knowledge of the principles of golf club management including golf operations, finance, human resources, building maintenance, food and beverage, golf course maintenance, membership and marketing.
  • Ability to take action in solving practical problems, develop a team effort and use planning techniques effectively. Ability to prepare reports, memos, correspondence, and analyses using various software packages. Ability to cope with strict deadlines and time demands; to effectively handle club clientele.
  • Skill in time management and prioritizing issues effectively; in oral and written communication; in presenting a positive image; in training and leading club staff. Skill in budget preparation and monitoring and maintaining good employee relations. Computer literacy in a windows environment.

Policies & Procedures

  • Responsible for the creation of all Standard Operating Procedures for the facilities to include, Golf Operations, Golf Course Maintenance, F & B, Culinary, Housekeeping and all supporting operating departments.
  • Assist in the implementation of company policies, procedures, and operational standards.

Functional Operations

  • Leads operations and the strategic representative in potential relationships with third party.
  • Makes recommendations for capital improvements, supplies and equipment.
  • Assures operational compliance.
  • Oversees the care and maintenance of all physical assets and facilities.
  • Oversees the club’s marketing and promotional programs to recruit members.
  • Ensures the highest standards for golf services and programs, golf course and practice area, food and beverage, sports and recreation, entertainment and other club services.
  • Establishes and monitors compliance with all purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Ensures and initiates programs to provide members with a variety of innovative functions, programs and events.
  • Oversees and works with department heads to schedule and supervise staffing.
  • Assures efficient and profitable operations by department; holds regular meetings with department heads to assure effective staff communications.
  • Works with Golf Saudi to set merchandise, golf and membership pricing, assuring competitiveness and profitability.
  • Make recommendations regarding needed operational and key staffing changes.
  • Develop and implement plans regarding club activities, events and outings.
  • Performs related duties, as assigned.
  • Approves specific operational policies, programs, and procedures in harmony with the mission and specific to the golf property.
  • Monitors the performance of all daily operations, functions and services; assures high standards and total customer satisfaction.
  • Establishes personnel policies; ensures proper hiring, training, supervising, personal development and corrective action in accordance with fair labor standards, safety and established policy.
  • Oversees the implementation of Golf Saudi operating procedures and training manuals and customizes them for the characteristics of the specific property.
  • Develops emergency and safety procedures.
  • Coordinates the development of operating and capital budgets; monitors financial statements, reviews income and expenses relative to plans, implements corrective measures as needed.
  • Provides on a monthly basis to Golf Saudi, an official, Summary of Operations report. This report will inform Golf Saudi in a detailed manner, the progress and/or challenges facing the club as a whole and identifying work performed by you in relation to each department.
  • Manages and oversees all accounting, inventories, banking, audit procedures, cash flow, and establishes controls to safeguard funds and assets.
  • Meets, greets, and welcomes prospective members.

Health, Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Devises, implements and oversees health and safety plans to meet industry recognized standards and conducts relevant training to ensure a safe place of work.
  • Ensures all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures and controls to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/services and a responsible environmental attitude.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement to enhance performance to meet stakeholder expectations.
  • Inspects the operational related areas on a regular basis to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and to implement changes if required in management programs.
  • Introduces Best Practice to promote consistent improvement and development within the golf project areas.

Frameworks, Boundaries, & Decision-Making Authority

  • The General Manager reports to and confers with the Senior Director of Operations on critical managerial and strategic issues.
  • Key decisions having significant impact on the operations management referred to by the Senior Director of Operations / Chief Operating Officer for approval before implementation.
  • The jobholder exercises financial authority as per the level established by Golf Saudi.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree from accredited college or university in Business / Hospitality Management.
  • CMAE MDP1 & MDP2 preferred.
  • Specialist golf education / qualification preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Management Experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years in senior golf management.
  • Pre-opening experience required.
  • Middle East work experience preferred.
  • Ability to manage people.
