Job description

Aramco energizes the world economy.

Aramco occupies a unique position in the global energy industry. We are the world’s largest producer of hydrocarbons (oil and gas), with the lowest upstream carbon intensity of any major producer.

With our significant investment in technology and infrastructure, we strive to maximize the value of the energy we produce for the world along with a commitment to enhance Aramco’s value to society.

Headquartered in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and with offices around the world, we combine market discipline with a generations’ spanning view of the future, born of our nine decades experience as responsible stewards of the Kingdom’s vast hydrocarbon resources. This responsibility has driven us to deliver significant societal and economic benefits to not just the Kingdom, but also to a vast number of communities, economies, and countries that rely on the vital and reliable energy that we supply.

We are one of the most profitable companies in the world, as well as amongst the top five global companies by market capitalization.

Overview

We are seeking a Geomechanics / Rock Mechanics Engineer to join the Gas Strategy & Technical Support Department. The Gas Strategy & Technical Support Department is responsible for setting the strategy of gas program, balancing sales gas supply and demand, monitoring gas programs, providing AI/digitalization solutions, supporting subsurface technical reservoir studies and well design and completion strategies of wells, and managing the engineering work for subsurface strategic gas storage to balance seasonal demand.

As a Geomechanics / Rock Mechanics Engineer, you will be responsible for studying and understanding the deformation and failure of rocks and soils in response to changes in stress, pressure, temperature and other environmental parameters. You will apply this knowledge to address a wide range of geomechanical problems that arise during the exploration, development and production of gas reservoirs.

Key Responsibilities

As a successful candidate you will be required to perform the following:

  • Perform geomechanical analysis and modeling to support various oil and gas operations such as well design, drilling optimization, borehole stability, mud weight determination, sand production, hydraulic fracturing, reservoir compaction, fault reactivation and induced seismicity.
  • Collect, interpret and integrate geomechanical data from various sources such as well logs, core tests, seismic surveys, stress measurements and field observations.
  • Develop and calibrate geomechanical models using software tools such as Abaqus, FLAC3D, Petrel or VISAGE.
  • Evaluate and quantify the effects of geomechanical processes on reservoir behavior, fluid flow and well performance.
  • Provide geomechanical recommendations and solutions to mitigate risks and enhance opportunities for oil and gas extraction.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Conduct research and development on new technologies, methods or best practices for rock mechanics or geomechanics engineering.
  • Build 1D and 3D geomechanical models for non-associated gas reservoirs.
  • Evaluate the optimum mud-weight and conduct wellbore stability analysis for newly drilled wells.
  • Work closely with other disciplines such as geology, geophysics, reservoir engineering, drilling engineering and production engineering to optimize the performance and recovery of hydrocarbons from the subsurface.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments and trends in the oil and gas industry.

Minimum Requirements

As a successful candidate you will hold a:

  • Bachelor of science in petroleum engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering or related discipline from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in a petroleum engineering organization with 10 years of relevant experience in rock mechanics or geomechanics engineering in the oil and gas industry.
  • Knowledge of rock mechanics or geomechanics principles, theories and applications.
  • Knowledge of oil and gas reservoir engineering, drilling engineering and production engineering.
  • Knowledge of oil and gas industry standards, regulations and best practices.
  • Proficient in using rock mechanics or geomechanics software tools such as Abaqus, FLAC3D, Petrel or VISAGE.
  • Willingness to travel to field locations as required.

Working environment

Our high-performing employees are drawn by the challenging and rewarding professional, technical and industrial opportunities we offer, and are remunerated accordingly. At Aramco, our people work on truly world-scale projects, supported by investment in capital and technology that is second to none. And because, as a global energy company, we are faced with addressing some of the world’s biggest technical, logistical and environmental challenges, we invest heavily in talent development.

We have a proud history of educating and training our workforce over many decades. Employees at all levels are encouraged to improve their sector-specific knowledge and competencies through our workforce development programs – one of the largest in the world.
