Job Purpose:

The Electrical Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of electricians and other workers involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems on construction sites or in industrial settings. This role involves planning, scheduling, and ensuring that electrical work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant codes and standards. The Electrical Foreman acts as a key point of contact between management and the electrical crew, providing leadership and technical guidance.


Key Accountability Areas:


Team Supervision:

  • Lead and supervise a team of electricians, apprentices, and other workers involved in electrical installations and maintenance.
  • Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure that work is completed on time and to the required quality standards.
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to junior team members and apprentices.

Project Planning and Coordination:

  • Review project plans, blueprints, and specifications to determine the scope of work and required materials and equipment.
  • Coordinate with project managers, site supervisors, and other trades to ensure smooth workflow and project integration.
  • Plan and schedule work activities, ensuring optimal use of labor, materials, and equipment.

Installation and Maintenance:

  • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, including wiring, conduits, lighting, power distribution, and control systems.
  • Ensure that all electrical work is performed in compliance with local, state, and federal electrical codes, as well as company standards.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards and is free of defects.

Safety Management:

  • Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel on-site.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and ensure that all team members are aware of and adhere to safety guidelines.
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards associated with electrical work.

Material and Equipment Management:

  • Order and manage the inventory of electrical materials, tools, and equipment needed for the project.
  • Ensure that all tools and equipment are in good working condition and are used properly by the crew.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials.

Communication and Reporting:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for site management and other trades regarding electrical work.
  • Prepare and maintain daily work logs, progress reports, and other documentation related to the project.
  • Communicate any issues, delays, or changes in scope to the project manager or site supervisor.

Quality Control:

  • Conduct regular inspections of ongoing work to ensure adherence to plans, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Address any deficiencies or issues identified during inspections, making necessary adjustments or repairs.

Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:

  • Diagnose and resolve electrical issues that arise during installation or maintenance work.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the crew in resolving complex electrical problems.

Role Accountability:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an apprenticeship program in electrical work is preferred.
  • Experience: Typically requires 5-10 years of experience as a journeyman electrician, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of electrical systems, blueprints, and electrical codes. Proficiency in using electrical tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and manage a team, with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent troubleshooting abilities and the capability to make decisions under pressure.
  • Safety Awareness: Strong commitment to safety, with a thorough understanding of safety regulations and practices related to electrical work.
