Job Description Fire Assay Technician

MAIN JOB PURPOSE

Perform routine analytical techniques related to establish Fire Assay procedures.

REPORTING LINE

You will be reported to the Fire Assay Shift Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Be responsible for the quality and quantity of samples obtained during the complete analysis of Fire Assay samples.
2. Understand Fire Assay procedures.
3. Be able to perform these procedures safely and diligently.
4. Maintain lead fusion equipment daily.
5. Submit a quality sample of silver beads to the Wet Chem Laboratory.

SPECIFIC AUTHORITY
4.1 Safety

1. Ensure that the required PPE is always worn.
2. Ensure that proper hygiene procedures are followed.
3. Ensure that a high level of internal management is maintained.
4. Report all accidents and incidents to the supervisor or management.
5. Be diligent about safety while performing tasks.

4.2 Operational

1. Actively participate in all shift activities as requested by supervisors to ensure that the needs of regular customers are met.
2. Report all necessary maintenance work to ensure normal operations.
3. Maintain a clean work area and contribute to regular cleaning and maintenance work.
4. Ensure that all analytical methods are followed according to instructions.

4.3 Quality Control

1. Contribute to maintaining proper record keeping and document control systems.

4.4 Administration

1. Keep management informed of any problems occurring within the laboratory.
2. Notify management when inventory is low.
3. Attend training as required.
4. Maintain good relationships with all client personnel.
5. Maintain good relationships with relevant government authorities and community assemblies.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND QUALIFICATIONS
5.1 Education

1. Have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

5.2 Experience

1. Have at least one year of experience in a similar position.

5.3 Skills

1. Be able to work under minimal supervision.
2. Understand lead fusion methods and sample type recognition.
3. Understand sample preparation and Wet Chem procedures.
4. Be able to perform all lead fusion operations.

Qualifications

1. Education: High school diploma (or equivalent) is required.
2. Relevant work experience or lab experience through education would be an asset.

4. Candidates must demonstrate verbal and written communication skills.
5. The incumbent must have time management skills and strong attention to detail.
6. Work well under pressure.
7. Ability to manage and co-ordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
8. Extended hours and shift work may be required.
9. Good hand/eye coordination when handling samples & lab equipment.
10. Ability to work well with others & independently.
