Elementary Teacher Assistant

ROLE OVERVIEW
Teacher Assistants support teachers and work with a diverse group of
scholars, helping to create a positive, safe and engaging learning
environment; assisting the classroom teacher with planning and
implementing curriculum, delivering instruction, and assessing
scholar progress. Our teacher assistants are outcome-oriented,
hardworking, and receptive to feedback, putting in the time
necessary to ensure scholars meet AISJ's high expectations for
learning.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Non-Instructional Responsibilities
   1. Health & Safety
      Assure the health and safety of scholars by following health
      and safety rules
      Assist with the maintenance of a safe and orderly classroom
      environment
   2. Classroom Support
      Assist in putting up bulletins and updating bulletin boards
      Take attendance of scholars
      Distribute and collect assignments
      Prepare other classroom related material
      Label and organize materials needed in the classroom
      Distribute work into individual scholars' folders (Portfolios)
      Support and maintain classroom policies
      Enforce school policies and rules (uniform, healthy snack)
   3. Supervision and Communication
      Supervise scholars inside the classroom and outside, that
      includes monitoring hallways, lunchtime, playground areas and
      dismissal duties
      Supervise scholars on field trips
      Effectively communicate with scholars, teacher and in some
      cases parents
      Participate in meetings and in-service training programs
2. Instructional Responsibilities
   1. Substitute when a teacher is absent as assigned
      Assist in checking scholars' work and providing feedback
      Support individual and small group instruction
      Supervise and assist scholars during independent work and study
      periods
      Provide support to the classroom teacher in the delivery of
      instruction and the management of the classroom
      Monitor scholars' assessments and progress and provide feedback
      to the teacher
      Work closely with the teacher to adapt instruction to meet the
      needs of individual scholars
      Assist scholars regarding the building of self-esteem and
      development of a value system
3. Other Responsibilities
   1. Engage with community in after-school activities
      Engage with community in open communication
      Offer After School Activity (1/week)
      Supervision duties will be assigned
