Mechanical Engineer

Ensure sufficient task analyses are completed to carry out safely.

1. Ensure all direct laboring control work to safe working procedures and systems.
2. Co-ordinate and allocate work to trade employees in accordance with directions.
3. Request equipment, materials and consumables as required within limits of authority.
4. Monitor the use of materials and care of equipment and plant to minimize waste and damage.
5. Prepare short term schedules at an agreed frequency i.e. daily and weekly.
6. Ensure that all mechanical labor is constantly employed efficiently and effectively.
7. Provide leadership and direction to assigned labor.
8. Refer disciplinary action to the Workshop in charge.
9. Ensure that work is performed as per Job Cards or schedule of works.
10. Ensure all work is carried out to quality and specification requirements and that documentation is completed on time.
11. Daily time cards are completed accurately and on time.
12. Assist in the management of a harmonious environment, team building and training of apprentices and other employees as required.
13. Liaise and interface with other trades supervisors.
14. Ensure housekeeping is ongoing by maintaining a clean and safe workplace.
15. Enforce safety rules through ongoing communication and Toolbox meetings.
16. Ensure equipment and tools are secure and used correctly.
17. Estimate hours remaining to be completed on jobs.
18. Help in technical queries.
19. Follow job cards thoroughly.
20. Sign Start and Finish times on timecards daily.
21. Coordinating machine shop deliveries to subcontractors and clients.
22. Assist in interviewing new employees.
23. Assist in performance appraisals.
24. Assist in preparation of Production Schedule.
25. Monitor RDO’s, annual leave, sick leave, work over leave etc.
26. Receive and dispatch goods.
27. Maintain work accuracy in all aspects of manufacture.
28. Conduct preventative maintenance on machinery equipment and mobile equipment.

Desired Candidate Profile

This role requires a minimum of five years experience working in the earthmoving and civil construction industry, with three of those years in a senior/supervisory role.

Competence with AutoCAD, awareness and experience with RIBA plan of work stages, practical project running experience, and computer literacy in construction Health & Safety are essential. A strong understanding and working knowledge of OH&SE, environmental management, and quality systems is required.

• IT skills, particularly in computer-aided design.

• Organizational skills, such as time and resource planning.
