Job description

Job Summary

Responsible for assisting a Dentist engaged in diagnostic, operative, surgical, periodontal, preventive, orthodontic, prosthodontics, endodontic or pedodontic procedures during examination and treatment of patients. The clinical functions performed include preparing and dismissing patients, point of use cleaning of instrumentation and disinfecting equipment, providing post-operative instructions prescribed by the Dentist, maintaining supply order, maintaining applicable records, and others as requested by the Dentist.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures through his/her actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality of medical treatment, compassion and understanding is given to every patient served at the Riyadh Care Hospital.
  • Assists designated Dentist and provides oral hygiene prophylaxis.
  • Assists in Operating room and recovery room assuring patient safety.
  • Assists physicians during conscious sedation procedures with adequate training.
  • Performs oral prophylaxis and gives oral hygiene instructions to the patients.
  • Provides chair side assistance to the Dentists.
  • Maintenance of the materials, equipment and cleanliness.
  • Performs cleaning, washing, packing and sterilization of instruments to prevent cross infection as per department policy.
  • Maintains and periodically reviews skill learned in First Aid and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation; handles medical emergencies until the Dentist arrives on the scene or assists the Dentist in rendering emergency first aid until additional medical help is available.
  • Charts accurately the findings of the patients oral conditions as reported by the doctor; records the treatment rendered in the patients permanent chart.
  • Coordinates with the reception and encoder for charges, arranging appointments and other necessary paperwork.
  • Participates in ongoing education monthly as developed by the department.
  • Helps maintain dental surgery equipment.
  • Abides by the department policies and procedures, by-laws, rules and regulations of the Insurance Hospital.
  • Responsible to educate patients/families as per their needs and to implement their whole role regarding patient/family education process as mentioned in patient & family education policy and procedure including documentation in patient medical record.
  • Complies with hospital dress code.
  • Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee's knowledge, skills and abilities.

Education/Licensure

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing/ Diploma in Nursing.
  • Current Licensure (RN) with a nursing governing body from country of origin.
  • Professional Nursing License from Saudi Council for Health Specialties.
  • Life support training as per specialty.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum two (2) years post graduate clinical experience in a hospital setting. (Saudi new graduates are exempted).
  • Current working knowledge in related specialty.
  • Demonstrates safe & correct use of specific unit-based equipment.

Competencies/Skills:

  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Be able to speak and understand basic Arabic Language.
  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Exhibits professionalism and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Good in customer care, able to work in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledgeable in computer applications.
  • He/She must be creative, flexible and have critical thinking skills.
  • Must have good personal hygiene and be well-groomed at all times.
