Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for assisting and supporting the Department Chairman in:
Planning, organizing, and directing the operation of the Emergency Department (PC&UCC) to provide efficient Emergency Department (ED) services and meet the patient care and personnel needs.
Maintaining a high level of professional performance in accordance with:
Professional Medical Ethics,
Hospital Medical Staff by-laws.
Standards & Laws of the Ministry of Health in KSA and other applicable regulations.
Administrative supervision and overseeing implementation of regulations within the department in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
Providing effective leadership role model in the department.
Complies with and actively participates in the ED quality/performance improvement plan using approved measurable performance improvement criteria, indicators, and standards.
Assumes the overall duties and responsibilities for the medical services provided by the ED staff during his shift and reporting to the ED Chairman or the ED Physician Shift Supervisor (EDPSS) after working hours.
Principal Duties:
Assists in the oversight of the daily operation of his assigned shift area in the ED.
Assists in developing departmental goals and objectives.
Assists in the design, implementation, reviews, and updates of Policies and Procedures for the ED every 2 years.
Orients and keeps himself updated (initially & periodically after return from annual vacations) regarding the most currently revised hospital and department policies, procedures, standards, and rules.
Orients, advises & updates members/colleagues in the ED regarding the most currently revised hospital and department policies, procedures, standards, and regulations.
Adheres to hospital/department regulations pertaining to essential medical ED Chart documentation utilization of personal I.D. stamps and hospital electronic medical records applications.
Maintains his certification status (BLS, ATLS, PALS, and NRP) updated as well as maintaining his required CME&T Credits for the Saudi Council for Health Specializations (SCHS).
Participates in the implementation of the ED Performance Improvement Plan (PIP); criteria, standards & indicators to evaluate, monitor and implement changes and re-evaluates changes to improve the quality and appropriateness of practice by the department; in accordance with JClA standards.
Assists in making recommendations on the Capital Equipment necessary for the department generally.
Participates & attends on assigned hospital committees.
Monitors, interprets, and reports concerning utilization & productivity statistics.
Assists in delegating appropriate duties & responsibilities to staff within the department commensurate with their education, experience, and job description.
Liaison & coordination on operational issues with the Nursing Division Leadership.
Assists and leads in training and education of junior staff in maintaining skill levels.
Assists in conducting annual performance appraisals of ED department staff as requested by ED Chairman.
Becomes familiar and competently understands his role expectations during Disaster Response (Code Black), participates & leads in the implementation of medical contingency disaster plans for the ED; including medical operations oversight, emergency response, and medical evacuation during his clinical shift.
Assists Junior ED Members in the care of patients who require special skills because of the nature of severity of their presenting complaint.
Residency Training Program participation, active participation in training and evaluation within the department.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Chairman, Department of Emergency Medicine and to the Executive Director, Medical Services, Central Region, which are within the post-holder's qualifications and capabilities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Medical Practitioner who is Pediatric Emergency Medicine Trained and Board Certified in North America or Saudi Arabia. - Essential
Registration in Saudi Council for Health Specializations (SCHS) and current license to practice medicine in Saudi Arabia. - Essential
Work Experience:
2 years experience post-specialty training. - Essential
Ability to proficiently achieve perform all procedures in the attached Medical Staff Patient Care Privileging Form. - Essential
Must comprehend and avoid potential unethical conduct or conflict of interest situations - Essential
Certified:
Basic Life Support (BLS) - Essential
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Essential
Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) - Preferred
Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) - Essential
Pediatric Advanced Life Support - Preferred
Have high standards of medical ethics, sense of responsibility as judged by his supervisor and colleagues - Essential
