Job Purpose
The cashier is responsible for maintaining an accurate cash register balance. They must also interact with parents and staff, and be able to address payment-related inquiries promptly and professionally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accepting payments: The primary responsibility of a school cashier is to accept payments from students or their parents.
- Recording transactions: The cashier must accurately record each transaction, including the amount received, the purpose of the payment (e.g., tuition fees, lunch money, or field trips), and the student’s or parent’s information in a manual ledger.
- Issuing receipts: After receiving a payment, the cashier provides a receipt to the payer as proof of payment.
- Balancing cash register: The cashier is responsible for maintaining an accurate cash register balance. This involves reconciling the cash received with the recorded transactions.
- Handling inquiries: The cashier may need to address inquiries from students, parents, or staff members regarding payments, account balances, or any discrepancies in the records. They should provide clear and accurate information and assist in resolving any issues or concerns.
- Maintaining financial records: The cashier often assists in maintaining financial records related to student payments. This may involve organizing and filing receipts, updating student accounts, and providing reports or summaries to the school's Chief Accountant.
- Following financial policies and procedures: It is essential for the cashier to adhere to the school's financial policies and procedures, including guidelines for accepting payments, handling sensitive information, and maintaining financial security and confidentiality.
- Assisting with payments to staff: The cashier should assist with the monthly payroll, particularly with the transactions related to staff cash payments.
- Reconciling accounts: The cashier may be responsible for reconciling student accounts and ensuring payments are accurately credited and outstanding balances are recorded correctly. This could involve periodic reviews, updating account statements, or generating reports for students or parents.
Ideal Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in a related subject matter and/or equivalent.
- English Proficient.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in the field.
- Professional Behavior and Ethical Conduct.
- Communication skills.
- Ability to work within a team.
