Job description

The Budget Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial portfolio management to ensure alignment with strategic goals. This role involves analyzing financial data, developing budget models, managing financial resources, and providing insights to senior management to support decision-making. Additionally, the role includes overseeing portfolio management to optimize investments and financial resources, ensuring risk management and long-term sustainability. The position requires strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to collaborate with various departments and enhance overall financial efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Planning:

• Develop and manage the annual budget process, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic objectives.

• Prepare detailed financial forecasts and variance analyses to track actual performance against budgeted targets.

• Assist in the development of long-term financial plans and models to support business growth and sustainability.

• Conduct financial scenario analysis and risk assessments to guide decision-making.

• Provide recommendations on resource allocation to improve operational efficiency and profitability.

2. Portfolio Management & Investment Strategy:

• Oversee portfolio management, ensuring efficient allocation of financial resources and investments.

• Analyze financial markets and evaluate investment opportunities to maximize returns and minimize risks.

• Develop strategies to optimize the company’s financial portfolio, ensuring diversification and compliance with corporate policies.

• Monitor market trends and economic conditions to adjust investment strategies accordingly.

3. Financial Analysis & Reporting:

• Analyze financial data and trends to identify opportunities for improving financial performance.

• Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership, highlighting key insights, budget deviations, and strategic recommendations.

• Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with corporate policies and regulations.

4. Cost Management & Optimization:

• Identify cost reduction initiatives and process improvements to enhance financial efficiency.

• Monitor operating expenses and ensure budget adherence across departments.

• Recommend financial strategies to optimize capital investment and operational expenses.

5. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:

• Partner with internal stakeholders, including finance, operations, and executive teams, to align financial strategies with business objectives.

• Provide training and support to budget owners on financial planning, budget management, and investment strategies.

• Coordinate with external auditors, regulatory bodies, and investors as needed.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).

• Professional certifications such as CMA (Certified Management Accountant), CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), or FRM (Financial Risk Manager) are a plus.

• 10+ years of experience in financial planning, budgeting, strategic financial management, or portfolio management.

Technical & Analytical Skills:

• Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling techniques.

• Proficiency in financial planning software (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Hyperion, Adaptive Insights) and Microsoft Excel.

• Expertise in portfolio management, risk assessment, and asset allocation strategies.

• Understanding of financial regulations, compliance, and risk management.

Soft Skills:

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey financial insights to non-financial stakeholders.

• High attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.

• Leadership and team collaboration skills to drive cross-functional initiatives.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

• Accuracy and timeliness of budget preparation and forecasting.

• Performance and risk-adjusted returns of financial portfolios.

• Variance analysis and cost savings achieved.

• Efficiency in resource allocation and financial planning.

• Impact of financial recommendations on business performance.
