Job Overview:

The Automotive Electrical Technician is responsible for performing Level 3 maintenance on the electrical systems of military vehicles, focusing on the replacement and diagnostics of electronic components. The technician specializes in ensuring the functionality and reliability of electrical systems, including power distribution, control systems, and communication systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostics and replacement of electrical LRUs, such as wiring harnesses, control modules, and sensors.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems and determine whether an in-depth (Level 4) repair is required.
  • Collaborate with mechanical technicians to ensure electrical systems are fully operational after LRU maintenance.
  • Adhere to military standards and safety protocols when working on high-voltage and sensitive systems.
  • Conduct system checks and provide testing support to confirm electrical components’ functionality post-maintenance.
  • Document all electrical maintenance tasks and update service logs accurately.

Specializations:

  • Power Distribution Technicians: Specialize in the maintenance and replacement of vehicle power systems, including batteries, alternators, and wiring harnesses.
  • Control System Technicians: Focus on diagnostics and replacement of vehicle control modules, sensors, and Electronic Control Units (ECUs).
  • Communication System Technicians: Handle the replacement and troubleshooting of vehicle communication systems, such as radios and tactical data links.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a technical diploma or certification in electrical systems, automotive electrical technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience as an electrical technician, ideally with military vehicles or heavy machinery.
  • Strong understanding of automotive electrical systems, including wiring, circuits, power distribution, and control systems.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, multimeters, and other electrical testing equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for resolving automotive electrical issues.
  • Familiarity with military or defense standards for vehicle electrical systems and components.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including confined spaces and harsh conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate with engineering teams and report on system statuses.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols when handling high-voltage systems.
