We are a leading research organisation in the area of wood and wood-related renewable resources in Europe. Our core competences are materials research and process technology along the complete value chain – from raw material to finished products. We develop methods and basics and perform applied research on the economy-science interface, in order to enable resource-efficient management in the circular bioeconomy.

For support in a 4 years European research project (CBE-JU Innovation action), we are offering a:

PhD Position (f/m/d)

Your responsibility:

As part of the European project SUSBOARD, you will collaborate with international partners from leading industry companies to enhance and refine the bio-based particleboard and MDF adhesive created in the SUSBIND project (susbind.eu). Your responsibilities will include a variety of tasks, ranging from the conversion of natural resources and subsequent adhesive synthesis to the production and testing of particleboard, as well as providing assistance in scaling processes for industry partners.

Minimum Requirements:

  • University degree (Dipl.Ing. or Master in chemistry, technical chemistry, process engineering, material science, wood technology) or comparable education
  • Interest in material development and testing
  • Knowledge and competence in polymer synthesis and chemical analysis is an advantage
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Willingness to develop a broad understanding of the necessary scientific disciplines
  • Independent, structured, responsible and accurate way of working
  • Fluent in written and spoken English
  • Experience in handling research projects is desirable
