Professorship (W3) in Data Engineering

A W3 professorship in "Data Engineering" is available at the University of Stuttgart in the Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, and Information Technology. The professorship will be part of the Institute of Parallel and Distributed Systems (IPVS). We are looking for an individual who can represent data engineering with a focus on systems research in research and teaching. The candidate is internationally recognized in research, and if possible, has experience in working with industry or is willing to do so. For example, expertise in one or more of the following topics is desirable:
- Data integration, transformation, cleaning – models, algorithms and architectures
- Data processing (stream), data management - middleware and systems
- Cross layer optimization – sensors, communication, analysis, persistence
- IoT, production – application domains
The ideal candidate can relate to some of the profile areas of the university, such as quantum technology, simulation science, architecture and adaptive building, digital humanities, and production technology, as well as to existing multi-PI initiatives, such as GSaME, SimTech or IntCDC. Cooperation within the institute is also encouraged.
The prospective professor is expected to contribute to teaching, in particular, within our degree program “Artificial Intelligence and Data Science” and through introductory courses, both in German and English, in the Faculty's Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs, as well as to actively solicit external funding and to participate in collaborative research projects at the university.
We are searching for an individual who is distinguished by high-ranking scientific publications with international visibility.
For a qualitative assessment of your academic accomplishments, we kindly ask you to submit a short description of your three most important scientific achievements, which should be no longer than one page in total. Possible accomplishments include, for example, those in the fields of research, teaching, science and society, knowledge and technology transfer, inventions and patents, software development, and spin-offs.
