Senior Sales Engineer

Reports to Managing Director Germany, or as assigned

Job Purpose

Field based position responsible for identifying, generating and growing new sales opportunities whilst managing existing customers in Leipzig region in Germany. Significant travel is required to meet customer demand, with frequent interaction with the Hasselroth & Dortmund sales office and with Central Europe leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (not all inclusive)

Individual must be able to perform the essential duties with or without reasonable accommodation;

  • Identify, establish and develop new MRO and project customers within the designated region;
  • Explore, generate and win new business by conferring with potential customers at all levels and departments to determine equipment, supplies and service needs;
  • Represent MRC Global professionally by maintaining a positive, customer centric relationship with new and historical clients;
  • Develop existing long term customer relationships, constantly reviewing their needs to identify opportunity to increase revenue;
  • Liaise with the Sales Manager to create and implement a sales and marketing business plan for the account base;
  • Liaise proactively with cross functional teams to achieve and exceed customer expectations, including other external sales colleagues, internal sales, finance and operations;
  • Prepare and issue weekly call plans and visit reports;
  • Share feedback on customer and competitor activity, identifying and communicating opportunities and threats;
  • Update CRM, ERP and other business tools as required in a timely manner in accordance with business process;
  • Prepare and issue monthly forecast information as required by management;
  • Attend and contribute to regular sales meetings as required;
  • Carry out other duties within the scope, spirit, and purpose of the job.

Education, Experience & Ability Requirements

Any combination of requirements, which provide knowledge and abilities necessary to perform essential duties and responsibilities, will be considered.

  • Preferably qualified in mechanical engineering at either degree or technician level.
  • At least three years sales experience with a successful track record of profitable sales delivery in a field based role, ideally in the valve/instrumentation industry.
  • In depth technical knowledge of valve products is highly advantageous.
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry, petrochemical, chemical and energy industries is desirable.
  • Strong commercial acumen.
  • Sales/Account management experience in a field based role.
  • Ability to negotiate at all levels, and manage the most demanding customers.
  • Able to prioritise with good time management skills to maximise working week.
  • Self-motivated, proven target driven achiever.
  • Excellent communication skills – written and verbal with strong presentation skills.
  • Excellent influencing skills.
  • Able to develop strong internal & external relationships, including remotely.
  • Able to work independently in the field whilst forming an integral part of the team.
  • Change agile, able to respond positively to fast paced changes in the business environment.
  • Driving license is essential.
  • Computer literate – ideally experience with SAP or similar ERP.
  • Fluent in German is essential, proficiency in English is preferred.
