Electrical Lead for Technical Service (m/f/d) - Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg

Job Category: Construction & Facilities

Location:

Req. ID: 238068

Job Type: Full-time

What to Expect:

The Technical Services Team is dedicated to maximizing the performance and availability of utilities and infrastructure systems, ensuring uninterrupted operations at Gigafactory Berlin. This dynamic team works tirelessly to maintain, enhance, and restore these systems through a combination of preventative and corrective maintenance strategies.

We are seeking an experienced Technical Services Manager – Electrical Power Supply - to lead a team of engineers and technicians in planning, building, maintaining, and expanding all necessary facilities to support our manufacturing processes. This role is pivotal to the continued growth and operational efficiency of the Gigafactory.

Responsibilities:

The TS Electrical Lead plays a critical role in the early construction phase of Gigafactory Berlin, ensuring efficient lifecycle costs, reliability, and operability of the factory’s electrical infrastructure. This role is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the electrical network (110kV – 400V), including solar farms and backup power systems, while ensuring compliance with DGUV regulations. Additionally, the role involves overseeing the VEFK function, supporting capacity planning, optimizing maintenance costs, and driving continuous improvements.

What You’ll Do:

  • Electrical Network Operation & Maintenance:
    • Ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the electrical network (110kV – 400V), including switchgear, substations, transformers, and distribution panels.
    • Oversee the operation and maintenance of solar farms and backup power systems (diesel generators, UPS, etc.).
    • Optimize electrical network performance through load distribution analysis, fault diagnosis, and predictive maintenance.
    • Lead initiatives to reduce maintenance and operational costs without compromising reliability.
  • Factory Electrical Safety & Compliance (VEFK Supervision):
    • Supervise the VEFK (Verantwortliche Elektrofachkraft / Responsible Electrical Specialist) and ensure compliance with DGUV regulations and electrical safety standards.
    • Support the VEFK in implementing electrical safety policies, risk assessments, and compliance frameworks.
    • Ensure proper coordination between the VEFK, production, construction, and maintenance teams to maintain operational safety.
    • Oversee training and competency development for electrical teams while ensuring compliance with legal and company standards.
  • Capacity Planning & Optimization:
    • Define capacity requirements for facilities maintenance, waste management, and recycling related to electrical infrastructure.
    • Lead cost-reduction initiatives by investigating ways to improve maintenance efficiency and minimize operational expenses.
    • Apply Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and root cause failure analysis (RCFA) to identify and resolve operational inefficiencies.
  • Project Support & Engineering:
    • Provide technical expertise in electrical design, ensuring alignment with Gigafactory standards.
    • Support all project phases from design to commissioning, including procurement, construction, and testing.
    • Independently make planning decisions, oversee implementation, and ensure seamless knowledge transfer within the team.
    • Act as a key stakeholder during the construction phase, ensuring electrical infrastructure meets long-term operability, reliability, and cost-efficiency goals.
    • Define and implement best practices for electrical supply to minimize lifecycle costs.
    • Collaborate with construction, technical services, and production teams to align downtime activities and operational requirements.
    • Incorporate industry best practices and lessons learned into site specifications and electrical standards.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in electrical supply management within manufacturing, industrial, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong expertise in high-voltage (110kV) and low-voltage (400V) systems.
  • Experience with solar energy systems and backup power solutions.
  • Deep understanding of DGUV regulations, electrical safety standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with FMEA, root cause analysis, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Ability to work independently and make key planning decisions while coordinating cross-functional teams.

Key Competencies:

  • Technical expertise in electrical infrastructure, power distribution, and energy management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially for FMEA and failure analysis.
  • Project management experience, including design reviews, budgeting, and commissioning.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, capable of coordinating between construction, production, and maintenance teams.
  • Strong focus on safety, cost efficiency, and operational reliability.
