Job description

We are looking for a Corporate Lawyer with litigation experience, typically combining the skills of a corporate attorney with expertise in handling legal disputes through the court system.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Tenancy Admin Team: End-to-end management of tenancy agreements and litigation matters.
  • Handling and advising on shopping mall daily operation legal matters/disputes:
  1. Draft and review all types of tenancy contracts/lease agreements.
  2. Advise if the conditions are in line with the term sheet and the mall's current cost levels (ancillary costs) for a tenant.
  3. Verify if the contract partner is the same as it is on the CR and whether it is up to date.
  4. Highlight if the modification represents any legal risk and assist the leasing manager in evaluating if the risk is worth taking.
  5. Negotiate highly critical points directly with the lawyer of the tenant during contract meetings.
  6. Double-check correspondence with tenants regarding matters that might lead to a legal case.
  7. Advise on tenants’ issues before and during the fit-out works and their operations within the mall after opening.
  8. Advise on potential penalties or consequences for delays on the fit-out works for the mall contractors and the steps to be taken legally.
  9. Handle governmental approvals on special events, such as exhibitions, theatrical shows, or any out-of-the-box event ideas.
  • Legal Consultation: Provide legal advice and counsel to corporate clients on a wide range of business-related issues, including risk assessment, regulatory compliance, and dispute prevention.
  • Corporate Transactions: Assist in corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and business reorganizations. Assess the legal risks associated with these transactions and help negotiate terms and agreements.
  • Contract Drafting and Review: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts to ensure they are legally sound and protect the company's interests, including addressing dispute resolution mechanisms within contracts.
  • Dispute Resolution: Handle and oversee litigation and dispute resolution matters for the company’s clients, representing the company in court proceedings, arbitration, and mediation.
  • Litigation Strategy: Develop and execute litigation strategies, including preparing legal documents, managing pre-trial and trial proceedings, and coordinating with external litigation firms if necessary.
  • Must have experience in representing companies before the Rental Disputes Settlement Committee.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential legal risks and work to mitigate them through proactive measures, contract provisions, and legal compliance programs.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the company complies with relevant laws and regulations, particularly in heavily regulated industries such as finance or healthcare.
  • Intellectual Property Protection: Protect the company's intellectual property rights and enforce them when necessary through litigation or negotiation.
  • Employment Disputes: Handle employment-related disputes and investigations, such as wrongful termination, discrimination, and harassment claims.
  • Corporate Governance: Advise on corporate governance matters, assisting boards of directors in making informed decisions and ensuring adherence to corporate bylaws and regulations.
  • Securities Litigation: Handle securities-related disputes and regulatory matters, particularly for publicly traded companies, which may involve shareholder actions or investigations by regulatory bodies.
  • Environmental and Regulatory Litigation: Address environmental and regulatory disputes and represent the company in legal proceedings related to compliance or violations.
  • Tax Litigation: Assist in resolving tax-related disputes through litigation or negotiation, working closely with tax specialists.
  • International Business Disputes: Handle litigation involving international business transactions, cross-border disputes, and trade-related legal matters.
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution: Recommend and engage in alternative dispute resolution methods, such as mediation and arbitration, to resolve conflicts without the need for full-scale litigation.
  • Record Keeping and Documentation: Maintain thorough records and documentation of legal matters and litigation proceedings.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law.
  • A minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience as a corporate lawyer for Malls in the state of Qatar.
  • Proven background in corporate law (contract law, commercial law, property leasing law, tax law, accounting, securities law, bankruptcy, intellectual property rights, licensing, zoning laws).
  • Excellent communication skills in Arabic and English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Highly analytical with strong attention to detail.
  • Outstanding managerial and negotiation skills.
