Reports to: Finance & Outreach Manager

The Communications Coordinator will be responsible for our external comms—both digital and print. That means maintaining a consistent level of quality, brand awareness, and tone of voice across everything we put out. They will be responsible for collaborating with the wider RY team to develop successful social media campaigns. They will communicate daily about content creation, oversee campaign schedules, and ensure these are successful and in line with our key performance indicators.

Additionally, the Communications Coordinator will be responsible for the maintenance, update, and functionality of the RainbowYOUTH website.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Social media & campaigns

  • Moderate social media accounts, reply to messages, interact with our community online.
  • Build relationships with organisations that we align with and promote their content/kaupapa.
  • Research audience preferences and discover current trends.
  • Develop written, video and photo content that is engaging for young people on our social media platforms (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok & LinkedIn).
  • Coordinate the design of RainbowYOUTH promotional materials and social media content across all regions to ensure it aligns with our values and maintain brand cohesion.
  • Measure and report on social media insights and analytics.
  • Collaborate with the wider team to create and maintain a social media calendar.
  • Work with the wider RY team to deliver key awareness campaigns, and measure those campaigns and their success.
  • Be involved with planning, attending, promoting, and helping run events, and creating marketing material for events and drop-ins.

Website & newsletters

  • Maintain, update and troubleshoot the RY website.
  • Promote our services or campaigns through our newsletters and mailing lists.
  • Work with the entire RY team to develop the RY annual report.
  • Work closely with the wider RY team to ensure that the website meets our aims and objectives.
  • Manage staff signatures, updating them based on events and current events.
  • Create strategies to grow our web traffic and subscriber base.
  • Ensure the RY website meets best practice guidelines for accessibility.
  • Create and update resources, posters, and flyers regularly.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Proficiency with Instagram, Facebook, TikTok & LinkedIn.
  • Passion for content creation on social media.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Detail-oriented approach with the ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with image editing software (e.g. Adobe, Canva).
  • Proficiency with social media video editing (e.g. TikToks, Insta Reels).
  • Knowledge and experience around working collaboratively online and in person.
  • Understanding & willingness to learn about Te Tiriti o Waitangi, matauranga & tikanga Māori.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Qualifications or experience in communications and/or marketing.
  • Knowledge or experience with social media management tools (e.g. Buffer, Later).
  • Understanding of historical, current and future trends and the current political climate in the digital content and social media space.
  • Strong understanding of youth and queer culture, our values, and intersectionality.
  • Understanding of SEO and web traffic metrics.
