Responsibilities

• Must be fully committed to working safely and to accepting responsibility for the safety of fellow crew members.
• Must be fully committed to prevent damage to the environment and shall work in accordance with client’s HSE Policy and Procedures.
• Ensure full understanding of STOP system and full participation in this system.
• Assist Supervisor in identifying jobs which may require a risk assessment.
• Participate along with Supervisor in risk assessment.
• Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the equipment and cleanliness of the area for which he has been allocated responsibility.
• Comply with Client’s Safety Policy and Permit to Work System.
• Carry out welding, cutting and general repairs and maintenance throughout the drilling unit as approved by the Chief Engineer.
• Ensure that gas, oxygen, rods and any other required consumables are in ample supply. Supervise, inspect and maintain the oxy-acetylene installation and all welding equipment, with the safe stowage of oxy-acetylene bottles.
• Update his knowledge of welding procedures.
• Notify the Chief Engineer of spare gear requirements.
• Ensure a Fire Watcher is in attendance when considered necessary by Permit to Work.
• Keep his welding coding qualification in date.
• To participate in the Client’s Competence Assurance Scheme.
• Must be able to relate to other people beyond giving and receiving instructions; get along with co-workers or peers without exhibiting behavioural extremes; perform work activities requiring negotiating, instructing, supervising, persuading or speaking with others; and respond appropriately to criticism from a supervisor. From time-to-time your immediate supervisor or his supervisor may request your assistance and assign you to do other general duties onboard the drilling rig.
