The Vessel Engineering Project Manager is accountable for the planning, execution, and closeout of the engineering scope of work required by Product development.

This includes the development of:

  1. New generic hull designs up to basic design approval, with the objective to contain sufficient details to reach a contract award with a shipyard for execution.
  2. Design maintenance of previously developed hull designs. The objective is to maintain an up-to-date database, including the latest developments, client requirements and lessons learned. This up-to-date database is to be used for next hull awards.
  3. Miscellaneous engineering studies to better assess the evolution of the generic product and help in decision making.
  4. New solutions that will improve the hull design or that will fulfill future client needs.

As the Vessel Engineering Project Manager, you will work across all engineering disciplines to ensure the engineering deliverables are completed on time, on budget, and on quality and in accordance with all safety and regulatory requirements with a generic mindset, in anticipation of any future project while balancing the cost impact for all stakeholders. You are responsible for delivering the fully integrated engineering scope of work and coordinating with all other members of the Product development team as well as other future stakeholders to ensure soundness of design versus future project expectations.

As the Vessel Engineering Project Manager, you ensure the engineering deliverables meet the project and Company requirements and are engineered to protect people, assets and the environment.

ROLE CONTRIBUTION

1. In order that the Project scope is properly defined and planned YOU ARE TO:

  1. Take ownership to define and develop discipline scope by understanding and evaluating the project requirements; define all engineering tasks and activities to be performed on the project
  2. Ensure the engineering team is fully aware of project and Company requirements and specifications
  3. Communicate and promote understanding of the scope, project strategy, execution roadmap, constraints and ways of working to the engineering team
  4. Set team expectations for quality, enforce safety requirements, and deliver a compliant design to meet project needs, Company standards, and industry regulations
  5. Coordinate with Discipline Leads and Discipline Managers to accurately forecast resource needs (staffing, tools, software, etc.) and completion dates for deliverables
  6. Partner with Discipline Managers to ensure an adequate number of qualified staff are assigned to the project to meet quality, budget, and schedule requirements per the project contract; ensure each team member understands his/her role and responsibilities

The measure of your effectiveness in this will be:

  • Development of a comprehensive Engineering Execution Plan in full accordance with the project requirements as defined by the vessel TA.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the full project engineering scope of work in full accordance with the project requirements.

2. In order to successfully coordinate and execute the engineering scope on the project YOU ARE TO:

  1. Work as a member of the PMT to deliver an integrated engineering design in a safe manner and to the agreed budget, schedule and quality
  2. Manage the Discipline Leads, including staff and engineering subcontractors, on the project to ensure the scope of work is completed in accordance with the approved Engineering Execution Plan (EEP)
  3. Identify, define, and manage all risks relevant to project engineering work
  4. Report progress and forecast in line with project requirements and develop mitigation measures, in conjunction with management, to ensure delivery on quality, on budget and on schedule
  5. Ensure that discipline issues are resolved between the relevant Discipline Leads and project stakeholders
  6. Understand and monitor all interfaces with external parties to ensure requirements are addressed

The measure of your effectiveness in this will be:

  • Effective leadership of the engineering team in accordance with the Engineering Execution Plan
  • Feedback from stakeholders
  • Adherence to project Risk Management Plan
  • Adherence to Project Schedule and Budget

3. In order to manage change in accordance with the project requirements YOU ARE TO:

  1. Apply MOC process to the performance of engineering work and provide engineering inputs to all changes
  2. Proactively seek inputs from all engineering Disciplines for MOC opportunity and validity
  3. Manage the interfaces with subcontractors and third party consultants and ensure all changes are captured through MOC process
  4. Provide inputs to PMT to assist in final decision making with respect to all changes

The measure of your effectiveness in this will be:

  • Implementation of all approved changes
  • Adherence to project requirements
  • Adherence to project MOC process and full traceability of approved and rejected scopes with associated justification

4. In order that engineering deliverables achieve the required quality and safety YOU ARE TO:

  1. Develop the engineering quality objectives for the project
  2. Ensure technical compliance and assurance processes are conducted properly; design reviews are organized, followed and closed out
  3. Deliver a design that is compliant with applicable project requirements, and industry regulations
  4. Collect Lessons Learned throughout the execution of the project in accordance with the PEP
  5. Seek inputs and engage with SBM technical authorities to manage gaps between VOS and GTS.

The measure of your effectiveness in this will be:

  • Demonstrated quality of engineering deliverables throughout all phases of the project
  • Cost of Non-Quality
  • Successful resolution and timely close out of Workshop Actions

Job requirements

  • Engineering university level (Preferably marine systems or process)
  • At least 12 years experience in the offshore engineering industry, with broad knowledge of SBM products and execution experience as EPM or vessel delivery manager or EPE
  • Leadership and people management skills
  • Quick and proactive mindset
  • Great communication skills and autonomy
  • High level of organization and project control is expected
