Telco Presales Engineer

Wired, IP Core, IP RAN, NFVI (Telco Cloud and NFVI):

• Planning, Deployment, Troubleshooting, Fault and Performance Managements of IP Core, IP RAN and Telco Solution.
• Virtualization, Storage, OpenStack, Orchestration, SDN Solutions Engineering, Presales engagement and Solution Architect.
• Solves complex problems in an organization by designing or modifying technology architecture and testing the integration of software in these designs for correct functionality.
• Presales support works for HLD for ISP applications businesses related projects such as OSS, BSS, but not limited to emerging technologies such as traffic management systems solutions, servers and networks devices working on Linux (RedHat, OpenSuse, Debian), Windows, VMWare, Juniper, Cisco, HP and other enterprise products and platforms.
• Pre-Sales Support for Transmission Networks (PDH, SDH, Hybrid, IP Core, IP RAN, Short and Long Haul Fiber Optic Transmission System running in CWDM, DWDM, xWDM Technology) and related Network Management Systems.
• Perform master and detailed network design, planning and related optimization support for customer’s native and hybrid domain and networks.
• Translating network performance requirements into technical specifications and workable solutions on the presale’s engagement.
• Maintains customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns, answering technical inquiries through email and/or phone support.
• Required to attend meetings, presentation, demonstration, providing SOC (Scope of compliance) to customer when needed.
• Provide technical insights, short term and long-term plan to address customer expectations and KPIs based on the customer’s requirement.
• Validation and understanding of newly released equipment from technology point of view, functionalities and features and additional features or technology needed as per market demand.
• To perform Proof of Concept (POC), Inter-Operability Testing (IOT), either in a laboratory test environment or actual field trial test if needed but will be assisted by NEC delivery team or 3rd Party support (Cisco etc).
• To provide vendor’s training plan to contractor and/or stakeholder technical trainings for skills upgrade and implementation/roll-out support.
• Verifies solution architecture and service on vendor’s best practices.
• Work closely with respective Sales (Client Account Managers), Business Unit Sales (Sales Specialist) and Product Teams from pre-sales, planning and ISP Solution Architect on role-play, round table discussions, best practice sharing, meeting to continuously support and maintain working process flow in order and according to project directions and KPIs.
• Required to be equipped and maintain with the latest telco solution and best practices knowledge.
• On-call, stand-by support if necessary and/or as project demands.

Networks (Security, Data Center, Service Provider and Enterprise Routing and Switching):

• Network Network Engineer or IP Core Engineer or ISP Certified Engineer or CCNP ISP (Cisco Certified Network Professional ISP), CCIE (Cisco Certified Internet Expert ISP), JCNIE SP (Juniper Networks Certified Internet Expert Service Provider), and/or JCNP SPRS (Juniper Certifications Network Professional Service Provider Routing and Switching).
• Network Engineer with Cisco/Juniper and equivalent certifications (Data Center/Enterprise and Service Provider Routing and Switching).
• Solution architect the HLD (High Level Design) by designing the telco solution design, and network schematic. Identifying, monitoring, and defining the requirements of the overall customer requirement.

Other business assignments:

• As assigned by Direct Report Manager.

Education, Work & Competency Profile

• Diploma or Degree in Telecommunication / Computer Science or equivalent.
• Required minimum 5 years’ experience in ISP or telco services line to apply.
• CCNP/CCDA/CCIE ISP (Internet Service Provide/ Telco).

Work Experience

• 5-10 years’ experience in Service Provider segment.
• 5-10 years’ experience in ISP / Telco Operations & Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance, Installation and Commissioning of wired, wireless and software defined systems knowledge, but not limited to actual server and networks devices integration solution knowledge.
• Proficient working knowledge in both IP Transport Networks but not limited to Microwave and Optical Transmission System equipment, associated theories and technologies, in-depth know-how in Installation is an advantage.
• Multi-vendor experience with IP Core, IP RAN, Microwave and IP Packet Radios, GPON, PTN, DWDM, Submarine Optical System, OSS, BSS, Application Softwares deployment is an advantage.
• Proficient in speaking and writing English and Bahasa Malaysia, including advance skill sets in using MS Office.

• OpenStack Certifications is a plus.
• Strong knowledge and extensive experience working on a multi-layer telco environment from L2 switches, L3 routers, servers, upper NMS, other third-party legacy and IP/Packet backhaul equipment for Trunk, Aggregation and Access Networks, 2G, 2.5G, 3G, 4G/LTE and 5G Network technologies, TDM Voice and Signalling.
• Fundamental understanding of the specifications of different optical fiber types, optical losses and link budgets, associated dispersion compensation, DWDM, SONET/SDH, ROADM and the likes, Ethernet technologies, timing and synchronization and protection configurations such as LMSP, N:1, N+1, ring topologies and related wireless phenomena such as fading, ducting, reflections, refraction, diffraction, k-factor and earth bulge, Fresnel zone and anomalous propagations.
• Ability to design L2 and L3 equipment and devices such as Cisco and/or Juniper Switches and Routers and integrate it to Network Elements (southbound) and Network Management Systems (northbound).
• Ability to provision, and perform troubleshooting of servers based on UNIX, LINUX and WINDOWS Network Management Systems environment.
• Able to read, interpret and convert to layman’s term structural telco site drawings and network diagrams, but not limited to traffic and management signalling flows for fault isolations and troubleshooting.
• Ability to use and interpret results from telco test equipment such as PDH/SDH Analyzer, Power Meter, BER Tester and Ethernet Tester in validating industry standard and specifications test such as RFC2544, RFC6349 and the likes.
• Solution Development life cycle skills.
• Network Design, Implementation and O&M skills.
• Ability to clearly communicate and present ideas and information to Manager level.
• Ability to clearly communicate network issues, design issues, implementation issues, findings and recommendations to fix and resolve the problem with both short term and long-term plans.
