Job description

Responsibilities

Serve as the technical lead in electrical engineering projects, guiding the team from the conceptualization phase through detailed design and on-site practical implementation. Ensure that all electrical systems are designed and installed to meet the project requirements and industry best practices.

Drive innovation in electrical engineering by exploring and implementing new technologies, materials, and design concepts. Conduct research and development activities to improve the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of electrical systems.

Lead value engineering initiatives to optimize project costs without compromising quality. Identify opportunities for cost savings through design modifications, equipment selection, and construction methods.

Manage and coordinate multidisciplinary teams in large-scale infrastructure, rail/metro, and data center projects. Collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, civil engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with the overall project design.

Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among team members, resolving any technical conflicts or issues that may arise during the design and construction process.

Conduct comprehensive reviews and verifications of electrical designs to ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and client requirements. Check for accuracy, completeness, and constructability of the designs.

Develop detailed design and construction programs, including resource allocation and scheduling. Ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget by effectively managing resources and coordinating activities.

Build and develop a high-performing technical team in electrical engineering. Recruit, train, and mentor electrical engineers, providing them with opportunities for professional growth and career advancement.

Identify the training and development needs of the team and implement appropriate programs to enhance their technical skills and knowledge. Keep the team updated on the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulations.

Lead liaison with clients during the design and construction phases, understanding their requirements and expectations. Present design concepts and solutions to clients, and obtain their feedback and approvals.

Collaborate with consultants and contractors to ensure that the electrical engineering aspects of the project are properly coordinated and executed. Review and approve contractor submittals, conduct site inspections, and participate in progress meetings.

Lead the bid management process for electrical engineering projects, including preparing technical proposals, cost estimates, and schedules. Coordinate with the estimating and sales teams to develop competitive bids.

Qualifications

  1. Degree in Electrical Engineering: A recognized degree in Electrical Engineering is required. A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
  2. Professional Registration: A registered professional engineer with PEPC (Professional Engineers Certification Board) qualification or an equivalent professional registration in the relevant jurisdiction.
  3. Minimum 15 Years of Experience: A minimum of 15 years of experience in electrical engineering is required, with at least the recent 5 years of experience in Asia, preferably in Southeast Asia.
  4. Project Experience: Experience in design management and coordination of multidisciplinary teams in large-scale projects, including infrastructure, rail/metro, and data center projects. Experience in construction works, including conducting inspections, testing & commissioning, and practical completion.
  5. BIM Experience: Experience in executing design and construction projects in a BIM (Building Information Modeling) environment, with a good understanding of the use of BIM software such as REVIT and CAD.
  6. In-depth Technical Knowledge.
  7. Code and Standards Familiarity: Familiar with Malaysia design codes and standards. Familiarity with regional design codes and standards will be an added advantage.
  8. Communication Skills: Exceptional communication skills, both written and spoken English. Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
